Based on the fields investigation, which selected ShiGao Mo-untain of the Taiyue Mountain as the research plots, the charact-eristics of Ulmus lamellosa communities were studied by usingquantitative ecology methodology, including species composi-tion, TWINSPAN classification, CCA ordination, species diversityand functional diversity, so that these results can be as theore-tical basis for ecological conservation of this species and scien-tific unilization. The results showed that:(1) There were43kinds of plants, belonging to24familiesand36genera, including gymnosperms1family,2genera and3species, angiosperms23families34genera43species, dicotyle-donous19families27genera32species, monocotyledons4fam-ilies7genera1species. Dominant family and single-generacould be observed in the floristic composition.(2) TWINSPAN and CCA were applied on Taiyue Mountain forUlmus lamellosa communities quantity classification and sorting.By TWINSPAN classification and the actual investigation, theUlmus lamellosa communities in60samples was divided into7types of association, and the basic characteristics of varioustypes of association were discussed.Sort of CCA and TWINSPANclassification produced consistent results. CCA sorting better reflected the relationship of the association types and environ-mental factors. CCA first sort axis mainly reflected the changeof slope positions gradient and elevation gradient; the secondshaft of DCA sort mainly reflected the changes in slope aspectgradient. Results showed that the change in elevation affectedthe importance ecological factors of community species compo-sition and distribution of vegetation in the study area.(3) The species diversity of the7association of Ulmus lam-ellosa communities were studied by using Patric richness index,Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Pielou evenness index, resp-ectively, we investigated the relationship between species dive-rsity of Ulmus lamellosa communities and elevation. The resultsshowed that: the species diversity by Patric richness index、Shan-non-Wiener diversity index and Pielou evenness index isrising from communityⅠto community Ⅶ, but the Patric richnessindex and Shannon-Wiener diversity index is decreasing fromcommunityⅠto community Ⅱ.The Pielou evenness index is highin communityⅡthan in communityⅠand community Ⅲ. Elevationis the main environmental factor of Ulmus lamellosa commu-nities in species diversity. But the analysis result between Ulm-us lamellosa community and elevation is not very signific-ant.This may be related to elevation gradient is not big enough infield survey. In these samples of Ulmus lamellosa community, thechanges of environmental factors and environmental hetero-geneity are dim and community structure is stable.(4) The functional diversity of the7association of Ulmuslamellosa communities were studied by using FAD, Rao’s, SL, CL, clustering methods. respectively.we investigated the relation-ship between functional diversity of Ulmus lamellosa comm-unities and elevation. The results showed that:The functionaldiversity of Ulmus lamellosa communities by FAD,SL, CL isdecreasing from communityⅠto community Ⅶ,but the functionaldiversity by Rao’ index is rising from communityⅠto communityⅦ.This is because the ecological significance of Rao’ is differentfrom the other. When the Rao’ index is creasing, the functionaldiversity is also decreasing. So in fact The functional diversity ofUlmus lamellosa communities by Rao’ index is decreasing fromcommunity Ⅰ to community Ⅶ. The analysis result betweenUlmus lamellosa community and elevation is significant. This isbecause the elevation gradient is essentially a gradient climate, low altitude area is good in water hot combination condition andit is more advantageous to the growth of plants, so the functi-onal diversity is more abundant.Climate change relatively cold inhigh altitude area, with wider range of plant distribution, lead tofunctional diversity decreases, which leads to the communityⅠfrom community Ⅶ to functional diversity value decreased.
