In order to clear the effect of echinops latifolius water extract on type I diabetes mellitus mice, and study on the expression of islet beta cell apoptosis factor, Bax,Bcl-2. Fist the experiment constructed the type I diabetes mellitus mice models by intravenous injection of alloxan and the animals were randomized into normal control group. the positive control group, echinops latifolius water extract of high (1g/mL), medium (0.5g/mL) and low (0.25g/mL) dosage group, continuous dosing after21d, then with the examination which related biochemical indicators monitoring and pancreatic histopathologic and study on pancreatic the expression protein Bax, Bcl-2.The results show that:Echinops latifolius water extract of high, medium, low dosage group on the construction of alloxan constructed the type I diabetes mellitus mice weight had no obvious change, Echinops latifolius water extract of high, medium dosage group of type I diabetic mice has marked hypoglycemic effect, it can improve the resistance to the type I diabetes mellitus mice load of sugar.Pancreatic tissue morphology:shows that the islet are atrophy in the positive control group and echinops latifolius water extract of low dosage group atrophy, irregular edge, boundary is not clear, islet cell number decreased, and some cytoplasm vacuolization, nuclear pyknosis, nuclear part of a dissolved and disappeared, the gap part of cell enlargement. Echinops latifolius water extract of high, medium dosage group islet number were increased, the distribution is also more compact, the damage of islet is reducing, compared with the positive control group and echinops latifolius water extract of low dosage group was improved, and the effect was positively correlated with concentrationBax and Bcl-2expression in the positive control group mice were significantly different from those of the normal control group (P<0.05orP<0.01), Bax and Bcl-2of echinops latifolius water extract of high, medium dosage group expression of were all obviously different compared with the positive control group (P<0.05or P<0.01), and the effect was positively correlated with concentration.Conclusion: Echinops latifolius water extract of experimental type I diabetic mellitus mice has marked hypoglycemic effect, and can effectively control the weight loss, increasing the load of glucose toleranc.Echinops latifolius water extract of may be related to repair the pancreatic tissue in type I diabetic mice and inhibit the apoptosis of islet cells.
