The seeds and one-year-old seedling of different Pithecellobium clypearia provenance were studied as subjects to evaluate comprehensively by factor analysis; the effects of rooting substrates, type and concentration of hormones, time of hormones treatments, length and lignif ication of cuttings, and substrates on the cuttings’rooting characters were also studied. The main results were as follows:1. There were significant differences in seed qualities among eight provenances of Pithecellobium clypearia (p<0.01), the weight of thousand grain was between561.7-843.7g, the aspect ratio was between1.08-1.33. Seeds aspect ratio and the total nutrient contents presented in latitude and longitude variation patterns, show that the variation trend of the seed shape from oval becomes rounded gradually and nutrient contents increasing from north to south and east to west; while there were no significant correlation among seed length> widths grain weight and geographical environment.2. The growth rhythm of one-year-old seedlings appeared as not the obvious S-growth curve, but the stable "fast-slow" growth model, and showed the significant seasonal growth. In the comparison between growth traits and biomass in one-year-old seedlings, in addition to the numbers of leaf had no significant difference, the other indicators have reached a very significant difference (p<0.01). Geographic variation in seedling growth was mainly affected by latitude and temperature:the number of leaflets increased with the decreasing latitude and rising average annual temperature; Parietal area increased with the increasing latitude and longitude, while Parietal area decreased the rising average annual temperature、rainfall and sunshine hours. These results suggested that the formation of geographical variation had correlation with the ecological environment of the provenance adapting to grow.3. The cluster analysis showed that seed qualities and seedling growth characteristics of Pithecellobium clypearia all represented the obvious regional plate characteristics:five provenances of Huidong>、Xinxing、Xinyi、 Luoding and Conghua in Guangdong Province were clustered together, three provenances of Bangwangling、Jianfengling and Diaoluoshan in Hainan Province were clustered together.4. Take the15variables seed qualities and seedling growth characteristics of different provenances Pithecellobium clypearia as contestant indicators, using the factor analysis evaluated comprehensively, and the superior provenances of Hainan were selected preliminary.5. The highest rooting percentage was obtained from cutting tests of the Pithecellobium clypearia treated with proportional mix hormones of IBA and ABT-1*200mg· L-1for2hours. The use of river sand as substrates led to the best rooting effectiveness of cuttings; while the rooting rate was higher by-cuttings of15-20cm long. The rooting effectiveness of cuttings was different significantly among the different lignification of cuttings (p<0.01), the no lignification of cuttings had the best rooting effectiveness. Based on the location of emergence of adventitious roots of the three species, the adventitious roots of the Pithecellobium clypearia originated preliminarily from the cortex of cuttings’bottom section. Based on the highest rate of Pithecellobium clypearia rooting cuttings was29.05%, the practical significance was little, actual production requirements couldn’t be meet, so it was not suitable for Pithecellobium clypearia cutting propagation, seed propagation was recommended.
