wood dyeing is one of essential technologies to achieving the low-quality, fast-growing wood and the rare wood imitation processing. Wood dyeing is dye with wood fiber modification of combination of physical or chemical processes. Aspen wood is a common species, resource-rich, easy to penetrate. However, after dyeing, aspen wood is always in poor performance. This subject of the study has important practical significance in the protection of precious timber resources, and in resolving the valuable timber shortage.By analysing of aspen wood pretreatment, dyeing process factors and lightfastness assistant, this paper discuss about how to improve the dyeing properties of aspen wood. We draw the conclusion as following:(1) Aspen wood pretreatment with boiling water, ethanol, benzene, alcohol and different concentrations of sodium hydroxide, has great effects on the extract content, chromatic value, degree of crystallinity, parallel-to-grain compressive strength, folding, surface changes in the wetting of aspen wood, and also dyeing depth, dyeing rate and light fastness of aspen wood after dyeing. The effect with extract content in1.2%sodium hydroxide treatment is most obvious, boiling water treatment effect is the worst; aspen wood chromaticity values change obviously before and after processing by sodium hydroxide and boiling water; all the treatments make changes on aspen wood crystallinity. After sodium hydroxide treatment, parallel-to-grain compressive strength has increased, while after other approaches is declined. Fold phenomenon happened in treated aspen woods, which is the most obvious after sodium hydroxide treatment. Surface wettability with sodium hydroxide treatment works best; and the higher the concentration, the more obvious effect.Aspen woods have the best penetration rate with high concentrations of sodium hydroxide and benzyl alcohols, ethyl alcohol treatment. Aspen woods with high concentrations of sodium hydroxide(NaOH) have best penetration rate, but worst lightfastness.(2)By studying the different dyeing process conditions, I noticed that liquid consistency, dyeing temperature and dyeing time, and amount of accelerant, these all have varying degrees of impact on dyeing rate and light resistance of aspen woods. With analysis of the single factor variance, I draw a clear conclusion that the order of technological factors which effecting dyeing rate of aspen woods is as following:concentration of dye solution> dyeing temperature> accelerant dosage> dyeing time; the order of technological factors which effecting light resistance of aspen woods is as following:accelerant dosage> concentration of dye solution> dyeing temperature> dyeing time.(3)After three kinds of light resistance additive treatment such as different concentrations of aluminium potassium sulfate. polyethylene glycol400(Macrogol400). and chitosan. aspen woods lightfastness are improved.what’s more, the more concentrations of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) have. the better aspen woods lightfastness are, with chitosan treatment works best.
