In the present study, a commercial bio-fertilizer HYT was used in the cultivation ofwatermelon, cucumbers and tomatoes for evaluating its effects on the crop growth, yield andquality; and its role in amending soil environment (soil chemical properties, availablenutrients and biological activity etc). The results showed that:(1) HYT significantly improved the total soluble sugar content of the watermelon, cucumbers and tomatoes. The nitrate contents were reduced and soluble proteins and solublesolids were increased.(2) HYT improved the yield of watermelons, cucumbers and tomatoes up to28.3%.(3)HYT positively improved soil environment by increasing soil available nitrogen andphosphorus content and enhancing soil urease and alkaline phosphatase activity.(4) HYT significantly affected the chlorophyll and Specific Leaf Weight(SLD)keepingthem at high level. However, it had weakly affected the plant height and stem diameter.(5) HYT inhibited root-knot nematodes and had promotion effect on vegetable growth.(6) With the reduction inputs of the mineral fertilizers by25%, HYT treatmentsnegatively affected the vegetative growth of tomatoes, fruit nutrition quality and yield, soilavailable nutrient levels also did not increase. However, the level of the soil enzymes activityis higher. It is suggested to continuously use HYT accompanied with proper mineral fertilizer andsufficient organic fertilizer. It should be further study the effect of HYT on reducing thequantity of mineral fertilizer.
