Soil water and nutrient deficiencies, which restricted agricultural sustainabledevelopment in Arid regions agriculture. In order to make full use of the natural soilimprovement materials, and develop new soil conditioner, firstly this paper studies thecapability of water absorbing, the content of nutrient and metal of natural soil of six naturalimprovement materials, which are straw, oil residue, peat, weathered coal, shale, vermiculite.Secondly studies the effects of mixed application of natural soil improvement materials andPAM on soil structure, soil organic matter and soil water features. The main conclusions areas follows:(1)The six kinds of materials within the confine of the international standards forplowing farmland matter of the heavy metal content. The water absorptivity of the sixmaterials is higher than soil. The water absorptivity of vermiculite is the highest, is2.46.Compared soil the water absorptivity of weathered coal, straw, oil residue had significantdifference. Water retention of oil residue is the strongest in six materials. The six materialscan be used as natural soil improvement material, which can directly put into the soil.(2)Straw, oil residue and weathered coal are the better materials for improving soilstructure. With the increase of the contents of materials, the bulk density decreased, thegeneral porosity, the content of soil water-stable aggregates and the stability of soilwater-stable aggregates structure increased. When mixed with PAM, soil structure increased.Applying polyacrylamide the content of soil aggregate water stability increased by4.4%, thestability increased by9.8%than don’t applying polyacrylamide. But the interaction of sixmaterials respectively with PAM treatment on soil aggregate water stability had no significantimprovement.(3)Weathered coal, Straw, and oil residue are the better materials for soil organic matter. With the increase of the contents of materials, the soil organic matter content and soil organicmatter decomposition rate increased. When mixed with PAM, Soil organic matterdecomposition rate Increased by35.1%. (4) Straw, vermiculite and oil residue are the better materials for water provision andretention. With the increase of the contents of materials, soil water characteristics improved. When mixed with PAM, Soil saturated water content increased by5.1%, water-holdingperformance increased by5.7%. Effective water content increased by5.1%, evaporative waterloss lower than10.9%, Soil evaporation rate reduced by12.6%.(5) Based on the above research, Straw, weathered coal and oil residue have greatlyaffected soil physical and chemical properties.
