With the development of agricultural economy, plantation of fruit trees is heading to specialization, scale and intensive development. Prevention and control of plant diseases and insect pests of trees directly affects the growth of trees and the quality and yield of fruit. At present, the pesticide spray equipment and technology targeted at trees are relatively backward, which not only causes a great deal of pesticide waste, but also severe pollution to the environment. Based on trees pesticide spraying, the paper aims to design a kind of multi-joint tree-imitating spray machine which takes into consideration the row spacing, height, and crown shape of the trees so as to realize accurate spraying, enhance spraying efficiency, and reduce environmental pollution. The article analyzes the working principle of the spraying rod’s imitating mechanism and integrates the target functions of the tree-imitating spray machine to select the reasonable one from two options which had been designed. After carrying out on-site investigation into the size of trees and looking up the materials about tree-imitating spray machine, the structural dimensions and forms are decided. In addition, the three-dimensional modeling software-CATIA is employed to build model for optimizing the dimensions of different parts in the machine. The virtual prototype software-ADAMS is adopted to conduct kinemaic and dynamic simulation of the three-dimensional model. Through analysis of the stretching length of hydraulic cylinder, ream support, motion trail of rod pieces, speed, acceleration, center of gravity, and materials, as well as the simulation curve from ADAMS treatment, the results indicate that the movement state of rod pieces can meet the design demands.Physical sample machine reduced in proportion to the designed tree-imitating mechanism is processed and assembled to test on trees of different forms and sizes in order to verify the feasibility of the mechanism. According to the test results, the designed multi-joint tree-imitating spray machine can meet the target design functions and realize expected objectives.
