In order to apply vermicompost on the planting and managing of cool seasonal turfgrass more scientific and more reasonable, this paper conducted the greenhouse and field experiments. The effects of vermicompost on growth and soil improvement of two cool seasonal turgrass which are Lolium perenneand Agrostis stoloniferalwere done. The greenhouse experiment was conducted by combining vermicompost with the soil under different volumeratiowhich was 0%, 20%, 60%, 80%, 100%, then do the research of the mixture on the germination and early development of theturfgrass. The field experiment was performedby applying the vermicompost in0t/hm2,5t/hm2,10t/hm2,15t/hm2,60t/hm2 by complete random block design and do the research of the effects of vermicompost on the turfgrass quality and soil quality. The main results were as follows:The results showed that under the 20% proportion of vermicomposttreatment, both the germination(89.17±4.64)% and germination energy(78.33±5.83)% of Lolium perenne arrived the highest values, which were significantly higherthan the control by 22.50% and 27.50%(P<0.05). The proportion of 20% treatment shortened the mean germination time(4.0±0.2) about one day compared to the control(4.8±0.5). However, the different treatments did not affect the numbers of leaves and aboveground dry weight of Lolium perenne(P>0.05). To Agrostis stoloniferal, when the proportion of vermicomposr was 20%, the mean germination time was the shortest, and at the 60% proportion, the numbers of leaves and aboveground dry weight were significantly higher than the control. Therefore, during the seed germination and early development, the suitable vermicompost addition proportion was 20% to Lolium perenne, and the suitable vermicompost additionwas 60% to Agrostis stoloniferal;Vermicompost could effectively shorten Lolium perenne and Agrostis stoloniferal growing timeby 20 days and 40 days respectively, and prolong the green time by 20 days and 40 days extensively. The aboveground biomass of Lolium perenne and plant height of both Lolium perenne and Agrostis stoloniferalwere significantly improved(P<0.05) with the increasing vermicompost application. There were significant difference in the leave width and plant height during the early development of Lolium perenne. However, the differences were not significantly among the treatments of tiller and leave numbers; The soil microbial biomass and soil nutrients of the surface layer were all higher than the lower layer. Vermicompost could significantly improve the soil microbial biomass and soil nutrients(P<0.05).Compared to the soil nutrients, the soil microbial biomass could reflect the soil quality under a short period more sensitively. The soil microbial biomassperformed as the trend up-down-up, and the highest point came up mainly at the treatment of 10t/hm2 and 60t/hm2. There were always significant active correlation between the soil microbial biomass and soil nutrients, and the correlation would change with the different soil layers and different turfgrass species. This also proved that soil microbial biomass could be used as the effective factor to evaluate the soil quality; As the proper vermicompost addition could significantly improve the turfgrass quality and the soil quality, it’s better to apply 10t/hm2 vermicompost to Lolium perenne and Agrostis stoloniferalafter considering and balancing kinds of factors.
