In this paper, took Kuye River basin as the research area, analyzed the spatial and temporal variations of landuse, vegetation coverage and the soil erosion based on the landsat TM remote images in 1989, 1998 and 2011, and Chinese Soil Loss Equation(CSLE).And also estimated the influence of human activities on the changes of soil erosion. The main results are:1) Grassland dominated the main landuse type of Kuye River basin in 1989, 1998 and 2011. The changes in landuse during the 22(from 1989 to 2011)showed the grassland increased significantly, forest-shrubland area increased slightly, residential and industrial land area increased obviously, farmland and sand area decreased significantly.2) Statistical analysis of NDVI in three periods showed that the vegetation coverage of Kuye River basin had increasing trend from 1989 to 2011 and the vegetation was improved. From 1989 to 1998, the average vegetation coverage of the basin decreased from 22.1% to 21.8%. The area of vegetation improving and vegetation degradation was 17.02% and 23.52%, respectively. From 1998 to 2011, the average vegetation coverage of the basin decreased from 21.8% to 25.1%.The area of vegetation improving and vegetation degradation was 53.14% and 12.00%, respectively.3) From 1989 to 1998, erosivity of annual mean precipitation was decreased by 24.59%, from1297.52MJ·mm/hm2·h·a in 1989 to 978.48 MJ·mm/hm2·h·a in 1998. Meanwhile, the area of engineering measures in 1998 increased by 65.01% than in 1989. Annual mean soil erosion modules were decreased by 25.98%, from 3860.85 t/km2·a in 1989 to 2857.92 t/km2·a in 1998.From 1998 to 2011, erosivity of annual mean precipitation was increased by 37.330%, from978.48MJ·mm/hm2·h·a in 1998 to 1343.43 MJ mm/hm2·h·a. in 2011. Meanwhile, the area of engineering measures in 2011 increased by 75.71% than in 1998. Annual mean soil erosion modules were decreased by 15.19%, from 2857.92 t/km2·a in 1989 to 2423.72 t/km2·a in 1998.4)The areas of soil erosion were decreased by 161.00km2 annually during 1989-1998, except micro soil erosion. And these were reduced by 22.69km2 during 1998-2011. From 1998 to 2011, the intensities and tendencies of soil erosion had a significant regional differences. Due to the opening and developing of Shenfu mine, the soil erosion intensities were increased in northern part of Kuye River basin, and these were decreased in southern part of Kuye River basin because of the Grain for Green Project.5) The average soil erosion modulus reduced by 1002.93 t/km2?a. And the contribution rate of human activities was 9.13% during 1989-1998. The average soil erosion modulus reduced by 1437.13 t/km2?a in 22 years. And the effectiveness of human activities was 113.14%. The eco-environmental constructions, such as Grain for Green Project reduced the soil erosion significantly in Kuye River basin under climatic change.
