| In support of remote sensing and geographic information systems, soil erosion and its economic losses were studied through field investigation, data access, laboratory analysis and modeling in the Funiu mountainous areas of Huai River basin. The main conclusions as follows:By use of Landsat in 1992 and CBERS in 2006, land use change of the research area has been studied. The results show that, the cultivated area decline, residential, transportation and mining land presents increase, the grass is showing a decreasing trend from 1992 to 2006.In support of the remote sensing and geographic information systems, soil erosion was calculated by use of models in the study area in 1992 and 2006. The results show that soil erosion has a trend to reduce, amount of soil erosion is 10.6 million t in 1992 while it is 4.76 million t in 2006, decrease by 55% for 14 years, with implementation of the Grain for Green Project and the soil and water conservation project, and the enhancement of the supervision and law enforcement of the soil and water conservation laws. The economic loss of soil erosion show significantly lower from 1992 to 2006, and show the obvious regional characteristics, it is greater in the mountains and hills than in plain regions. Comparing 1992 with 2006, economic losses of soil erosion, the nutrient losses is the direct economic losses, it account for 68.07% and 57.50% of the direct economic losses in 1992 and 2006, the sediment loss is also an important part of economic loss, is 30.3% and 41.09% of the direct economic losses, water loss is relatively small. |
