This study was conducted to observe the contents of minerals in water, soil, forage grass, sheep serum, wools and investigate the nutritional status in West Ujimqin Banner grazing areas, and to compare and investigate the rules in the content of minerals of serum and wool and serum biochemical indicators between healthy sheep and unhealthy sheep. The results may provide scientific basis for establishment of inspection system of sheep nutritional status and reducing the loss of nomads. The whole experiment can be divided into four trails. In first trail, chosen Baiyinhua town, Bayanhua town and Haoletugao town in West Ujimqin banner as the experiment areas to investigate the surplus and deficiency of the minerals of local water, soil and grass samples.Single factor completely randomized experimental design was adopted for second trail to compare with the minerals of the serum and wools as well as the serum biochemical indicators of grazing sheep in Baiyinhua town, Bayanhua town and Haoletugao town. The third trail selected totally fifty sheep in the main diseased regions of West Ujimqin Banner as experimental animals for a single factorial completely randomized design. There were 2 groups including the control and treatment group. Twenty-five health sheep were regarded as control group, and the other twenty-five sheep hading obvious symptom of paralysis were asigned in the treatment group. The experiment aimed to study change rules in four kinds of macroelements and nine kinds of trace elements in serum and wools under different nutrition status. The experimental design of the experiment 4 was same as the experiment 3. Comparative study was conducted under different nutrition status, to investigate the change rules in the concentrations of vitamin A (VA), vitamin E (VE), urea nitrogen (BUN), free fatty acids (NEFA) as well as alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activity.By contrast, the results show that:Some mineral elements such as Ca, P, Mg, K, Cu and Se are in lower nutrition levels in the soil of grazing areas in West Ujimqin Banner, whereas Cd and Zn are beyond to the soil environmental quality standard; and the mineral elements in animal drinking water are conformed to the standard range. Finally, the natural pasture grass and the reserved grass contains low content of Cu, lacking of P and Se.The contents of Ca, P, K, Cu and Se in the serum and Cu and Se contents in wool are lower than the normal lower limit.Compared with the health sheep, the contents of Ca,Cu and Se in serum and Ca and Cu contents in wool are remarkably lower than in the ill sheep, and all below the normal levels. The concentrations of Fe and Mn in wool are higher than the normal hinder limit, and Fe was significantly higher than the control group. The contents of trace elements Cu in healthy sheep droppings were significantly lower than the control group, but Fe was significantly higher than the control group.Compared with the health sheep, the activity of AKP and the content of NEFA in serum of ill sheep are significantly higher than healthy sheep; serum VA, VE and BUN contents have no obvious changes, but VA concentration is below the normal level. The reason resulting in the abiotrophy disease of grazing sheep in West Ujimqin Banner may be due to Ca, P, Cu and Se deficiency.
