To assess the performance of Pinus elliottii×Pinus caribaea introduced from Australia in Nanning, the growth volume and rosin yield of P. elliottii × P. caribaea were compared to that of three main forestation pine species in Qipo Forest Farm, namely P. massoniana, P. elliottii and P. caribaea var.hondurensis, under two different planting density treatments. The results showed that:(1) P. elliottii×P. caribaea could adapt to the environmental conditions of Nanning, Guangxi, Height, diameter, volume of P. elliottii×P. caribaea was superior to P. massoniana, P. elliottii and P. caribaea var.hondurensis. At 13 years old, the mean height of hybrid pine was 7.6%,13.6% and 37.9% higher than that of P. massoniana, P. elliottii and P. caribaea var.hondurensis respectively; in terms of the mean DBH,3.0%,41.4% and 39.5% higher respectively; as for the volume per tree,5.2%,98.6% and 133.6% higher respectively.(2) In comparison of two kinds of planting density,2m×3m was helpful to promote the growth of tree height at the initial phase for all the four species, while 2.5m×4.5m was helpful to promote the growth of tree diameter.(3) Planting density had relatively big effects on growth of the four species after canopy. It is recommended that the planting density of P. elliottii × P. caribaea and P. massoniana is should not be too small, and the first thinning should be in the seventh year, while for P. elliottii and P. caribaea var. hondurensis the first thinning in 11th or 12th year.(4) The resin yield of P. elliottii×P. caribaea of 7 yesrs old was 774.1g of per tree in 44 consecutive days and it was higher than that of P. elliottii, P. caribaea var. hondurensis and P. massoniana by 7.6%,40.6% and 50.4% respectively. The resin yield of P. elliottii×P. caribaea was 3096.4 kg/hm2 in whole year and it was higher than that of P. massoniana, P. elliottii and P. caribaea var. hondurensis by 48.7%, 6%,40.6% respectively. Therefore, under the same plantation site and climate conditions, P. elliottii×P. caribaea could be used as a substitute species for low-yield alteration project, which is contributive to gaining high timber and rosin output.
