Coastal protection forest is the ecological barrier of Yueqing city, and it has multiple functions including warding off disaster reduction, greening and city beautification, maintenance of regional ecological stability, protection of biodiversity and so on. After Casuarina was selected as the coastal protection forest, there was no more progress in coastal protection forest selection in Yueqing city, the singleness coastal protection forest had seriously hampered the development of coastal shelterbelt construction, and it was an urgent need to select native adaptable coastal protection forest, especially the forest with the following characteristic, that salinity tolerance, wind resistance, flood resistance, fast-growing, and importantly the ecological landscape effects was also be first considered. In order to renew coast backbone forest belt, we must enrich the tree species or forest species, build perfect forest with diversity tree species, among these, the diversity of species was the foundation of ecosystem. In this research, we focus on coastal protection forest selection of Yueqing city based on its characterization with muddy coastal and island coastal. First we investigate the existed on coastal protection forest of Yueqing city, based on the existed on coastal protection forest or species, we choose twenty-seven plant species to further research. We choose Taxodium mucronatum×Cryptomeria fortune:,Ficus concinna var. subsessilis, Sonneratia apetala, Kandelia candel, Dianella ensifolia to test their characterization on salt tolerance; the proline content, chlorophyll content, SOD content, MDA content, soluble sugar content and relative conductivity were compared after different concentration salt treatment in Taxodium mucronatum×Cryptomeria fortunei, Ficus concinna var. subsessilis. The plant growth and chlorophyll content were also compared in Sonneratia apetala. Kandelia candel after different concentration salt treatment. The salt tolerance assay was also conducted in Dianella ensifolia, Rhaphiolepis umbellata, Distylium buxifolium these three plant. Twenty plants were selected from the twenty-seven to test their ability on wind adaptation, and five plants of them were of the growth rhythm was assayed. Based on our research, we provide a theoretical basis for coastal protection forest selection in Yueqing city.
