Wheat leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina is the common disease, and it also cancause significant yield losses in a few years. Using resistant genes and planting resistantvarieties of wheat to leaf rust is an effective method for controlling wheat leaf rust.Variation of the population composition of P. triticina can lead to loss of wheat leaf rustresistance. Therefore, to carry out the investigation on physiological race of P. triticina andfind out the characteristics of composition and variation of wheat leaf rust physiologicalraces, is a good job in breeding resistance varieties of wheat and adjusting resistance wheatcultivars of layout.One thousand four hundred and eight collections of P. triticina were obtained from15provinces or city of China in2012. Six hundred and fourteen single-uredinial isolatesobtained were tested for pathogenicity by using16standard differential hosts,20wheatnear-isogenic lines and one known Lr wheat varieties. One hundred and thirty-two raceswere detected. THTT, THTS, PHTT, THSS, THST, PHTS, THJT and KHTS occurred at arelatively high frequency. The frequency of them were15.15%,12.87%,6.68%,6.51%,4.40%,2.93%,2.44%and2.28%, respectively. The part of the same main races and thedifferent main races were found in the various provinces and wheat areas of China. THTTand THTS were the main races in the most provinces and wheat areas.The results also showed that lower than30%isolates in the population were virulentto Lr9, Lr19, Lr24, Lr38, Lr42and Lr47(Pavon7S3) in all the provinces and wheat areas ofChina, suggesting that these genes be applicable in wheat breeding for resistance. Thevirulence frequency of V1, V2c, V3, V3bg, V10, V11, V14a, V14b, V16, V17, V25, V26, V28,V29, V32, V33, V37, V50and VB were above70%among all provinces and wheat areas ofChina, suggesting that these genes be not applicable in wheat breeding for resistance.Virulence frequency of V2a, V2b, V3ka, V15, V18, V21, V23, V30, V33+34, V36, V39andV44were differents among different provinces and wheat areas.
