Millet, broomcorn millet, rapeseed are small grains, the flow characteristic, friction characteristics of this kind of material, kinematics, dynamics characteristics in the interaction of its metering system components surface were need in the mechanized sowing work. Researching on the physical and mechanical properties of small grains belong to mechanics of granular media category of agricultural material mechanics. Studying on mechanics of granular media is applied in many fields of Agricultural Engineering. In this paper, the mechanical properties test and application study of granular materials which include rapeseed, millet and millet were done, which combined with the actual needs of small grains mechanical seeding equipment Research and development, the main work is as follows:(1) Experiment was conducted to study the mechanical properties of small grains, three dimensions of shaft and the 1000 grain weight of small grains, including millet, broomcorn millet, rapeseed were measured; and the mechanical properties of small grains were tested, the static, dynamic friction coefficient between small grains and friction material which include steel plate, aluminum plate, plastic plate, and the influence factors which have the contact area and the friction material were analyzed using SAS software, Mechanical properties including the restitution coefficient and elastic modulus were tested, which provides a useful reference for the design of small grain seeding equipment, and mainly explored the effect of physical and mechanical force effect of small grain cereals flow process.(2) The friction mechanism and kinetic equilibrium properties at the micro level in the flow process of the small grains were analyzed using the friction theory, and the effect of mechanical stress of small grains was explored in this process.(3) Combining with the stress condition of millet, broomcorn millet, rapeseed and other small grain seeds in the guide pipe of seed metering device, and creating the granular model of small grain cereals with EDEM discrete element software, and simulating the actual environment at sowing, the velocity and stress of the small grains in a different location of the flow guide pipe and the number and force when small grains contact guide pipe were simulated and analyzed.(4) Different seed tube material as influence factors, Small grain sowing uniformity in sowing was analyzed with EDEM discrete element software, which can Provide a reference for the design of this kind of seeder row device and the guide for selection of material tube.
