China is a developing country with a large population and relatively insufficient resources. In order to ease the tension of energy, we do not only need to the develope and utilizate of nuclear energy, solar energy and other new energy sources, but also need to pay attention to wind, hydro conventional energy, especially the effective utilization of biomass energy. Nowadays, China’s forest resources are decreasing year by year, but the forest resources are very rich. There are a large number of logging residues every year after forest harvesting. It is one of ways to solve the problem of energy shortage to make logging residues to biomass energy and be used directly, through physical, chemical and biological Technology.Branch chipper shredder is just one of machines.There are lots of chipper shredder now,but there is no one can work well at the field very close to the logging camp in hilly mountain areas forest.Based on the comprehensive analysis of the existing domestic and foreign branch chippers and shredders, on the combination characteristics of logging residues of hilly mountain areas forest in south of China, including tree species, diameter, and mechanical properties, we design a mobile chipper shredder that can be operated and moved easily with the function of chipping & shredding the branch and high efficiency.This chipper shredder can chip and shred the branch with diameter up to 80 mm and get the crush size up to 5mm or less that can formed into biomass pellet by forming processing equipment. It can work at the field very close to the logging camp in hilly mountain areas forest.The main research contents of this article as a conclusion as follows:1)After the comprehensive analysis of development status of comprehensive utilization of logging residues and chipper & shredder s and the characteristics of the existing domestic and foreign branch chippers & shredders, there is almost no one can work well at the field very close to the logging camp in hilly mountain areas forest.2) Describes the working principle and structure characteristics of the branch chipper shredder, and analysis of cutting power factors, unit cutting force effects, make the preliminary design and parameters.There are three kinds of machines that can shrede branch.They are chipper shredder with chipper bales fitted on disc and hammer,shredder only having hammer and chipper with chipper blade fitted on drum.This machine is chipper shredder that can be used to chipe & shredder branchs,brushs as tooth plates are fitted. There are leaf spring suspension mechanism in chassis.The traction rod can adjust the height. Vehicle tires are used.All of desings make this machine to walk easy in the mountain forest.3) Design and calculation of critical components;According to the overall design scheme, design and calculation of various key components, such as chipping device and related parts, shredding device and related parts and components, winding leaf and related parts, mobile chassis and associated components, determine the specific design data and design scheme. Power of this chipper shredder designed 11 kW.Rotation of disc is 2000 rpm.Lenth of chipper blade is 100 mm and thickness is 20 mm.Diamehter of disc is 400 mm.4) Build three dimensional modeling of parts of chipper shredder and make the simulation analysis on key parts.Build three dimensional model and virtual assembly prototype of parts of chipper shredder, and analysis of virtual prototype assembly interference by SOLIDWORKS. Completed improvement and optimization of structural designs. Finite element analysis is carried out on the main shaft through Solidworks Simulation. The results show that the design of the main shaft meets the strength requirements of the working conditions.5) According to the design demand, prototype was made and branch crushing tests were processed;During the process of making the prototype,some design was improved, making the structure more reasonable, both for processing and assembly, and more convenient for spare parts purchasing.It is easy to be packed and transported.Through prototype trial and branch crushing test, verified structure design of the chipper shredder is reasonable. and the crushing effect is good and high efficiency.All the parameters meet the design requirements.This chipper shredder can work at the field very close to the logging camp, and can shorten the production cycle, saving the cost of human and material resources in the transportation greatly, and also can improve the income condition of forestry staff, improving living standards, promote the development of biomass energy resources utilization in China.Small quantities of this chipper shredde had been produced and be put into market.They are mainly used for crushing logging residues of the forest or tree branches from garden and shade trees in city. All feedbacks are very good.It is proved that this chipper shredder run stablly and the failure rate is very low.There is very big market for this machine.
