Xiangjiang River as the "mother river" of Hunan province, which was suffere d with serious heavy metal pollution, had lead to a great impact in the water qua lity, soil, crops and fishery. In the environmental pollution survey, scholars had m ade some mature and comprehensive investigations of the mining area surrounding Xiangjiang River, but the investigation of heavy metals in vegetables along the x iangjiang river basin was not common. Vegetable as a very familiar and important food in people’s daily life, and along the xiangjiang river basin has a lot of veg etables planting area, and most of the planting areas are independent planting, whi ch was lack of unified health regulation and pollution survey. Besides, the current situation of the heavy metals’ accumulation in the soil of the farmland and the v egetables’heavy metal pollution status has not been reported comprehensive and s ystematic. Therefore, this article will focus on the heavy metal pollution investigat ion and analysis of vegetables and corresponding soil, irrigation water in Xiangjia ng River Changsha section residents autonomous planting area. The research samples of vegetables were colleted from Xiangjiang River Cha ngsha section. The research contents including:1) Heavy metal distribution differen ce in different organizations, different locations and different heavy metal elements in three species of vegetables;2) The enrichment and polluting evaluation in the edible parts of vegetables in Xiangjiang River Changsha basin;3) The heavy metal accumulation analysis of environmental elements and the correlation with vegetab le. This study aimed to provide certain reference resources for vegetable safety an d environmental directional control of Xiangjiang River. The results showed that:l)the accumulations of Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd in the stu dy area soil are generally more than the background value of Hunan Province. Th e contents of Zn and Cd in soil by many parts of study area are over the II lev el in the soil environment quality standard. Cd is the most serious pollution elem ent according to the potential ecological risk factor.2) the contents of these four heavy-metal elements in vegetable samples ranked from big to small as follows: Zn>Cu>Pb>Cd; For the majority of leafy vegetables and fruit vegetables, heavy metal contents in roots are higher than other organs. In the root vegetable crops, the contents of Pb and Cd in the edible parts of vegetables are less than inedibl e parts.3) The abilities of enrichment by different heavy metal in vegetables are different. Pb has the lowest enrichment coefficient in three kinds of vegetables; C d has a strong mobility in the soil-vegetable system.4) The single factor pollutio n index and Nemero index showed that the vegetables planted in Xiangjiang Rive r Changsha basin had polluted in different degrees. In general, Pb and Cd are im portant factor in the vegetable contaminating which were planted in Xiangjiang Ri ver Changsha section.
