Basic on 5 kinds of typical forest types in Guandi mountainous, litter’s volume and water-holding capacity were measured by setting up the standard in the field, collecting sample layered, weighing and soaking in the laboratory. The result showed:(1) There are significant differences among the 5 kinds of typical forest litter volume range from 31.07 t/hm2 to 69.95t/hm2, with a rank of:Pinus tabulaeformis Carr forest> Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr forest> Betula platyphylla Suk. forest> Quercus liaotungensis Koidz forest> Piceaasperata forest.(2) Non-decomposition layer is composed of branches, leaves, fruits, and other litter, those whose volumes are great difference in the same or different forest types. The volume of the semi-decomposition layer in the broad leaved forest is bigger than the coniferous forest’s.(3) The maximum water-holding capacity of 5 forest types ranged from 59.47 t/hm2 to 149.18 t/hm2, with a rank of: Pinus tabulaeformis Carr forest> Betula platyphylla Suk. forest> Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr forest> Quercus liaotungensis Koidz forest> Piceaasperata forest. The maximum water-holding rate of 5 forest types ranged from 166.62% to 320.28%, with a rank of:Betula platyphylla Suk. forest> Quercus liaotungensis Koidz forest> Pinus tabulaeformis Carr forest> Piceaasperata forest> Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr forest. The effective retaining deep of 5 forest types ranged from 2.05mm-5.48mm, with a rank of:Pinus tabulaeformis Carr forest> Betula platyphylla Suk. forest> Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr forest> Quercus liaotungensis Koidz forest> Piceaasperata forest.(4) The change trend of water-holding capacity and rate in 5 forest types or the various components is increased with the extension of time, The maximum amount increased in the first hour, after gradually decreases until be saturated. Through the regression that the water-holding capacity, water-holding rate and immersion time is a logarithmic relationship Rt=a In (T)+b.(5) The bibulous rate of 5 forest types or the various components are decreased with the prolonging of time, A power function relationship (V=k t n) was obtained about the bibulous and the immersion time by regressing. (6) The water-holding capacity of the various components has different effects on the litter total water-holding capacity. The greatest impact from semi-decomposition, contribution rate can reach about 50%. The contribution rate of leaves is biggest and the contribution rate of fruits is least in non-decomposition layer. These results for future Guandi mountainous forest region operation and management, health inspection and evaluation, ecological environment construction, restoration and protection of vegetation provide theoretical basis.
