Study On Yacon Propagation And Cultivation Techniques In Hunan Province

Yacon(Smallanthus sonchifolius) which belongs to compositae helianthus dicotyledonous is a kind of tuber crops. It is native to Andes Mountain Ranges of South America. Yacon’s germplasm is the most abundant in Cusco Province and Puno Province in the southeast of Peru. Owing to its resistance to plant diseases and insect pests, it is a kind of harmless natural product. It has unique healthcare function, Hence Smallanthus sonchifolius has become one of the most favorite new fruits in the world.Yacon obtain high yield in different altitude of low latitude area, we must have a set of comprehensive technology. Through the study of different effects on stem segment with axillary, we screened the best hormone and most favorable concentration, to form the rapid propagation technology of Yacon, could avoid variety characteristics degradation. By comparing the botany traits, yield and quality in different altitudes/different cultivation methods, we formed the most appropriate cultivation technology to get the highest yield, hence to provide the technical guide for the production in Hunan province.The major research results are as follows:1、The results reveal: MS+2,4-D 0.15mg.L-1 + sucrose (30g.L-1)+ agar (6g.L-1) is the best culture medium to the fast propagation of Yacon, it yields in good root system, high seedling rate, and high survival rate. With humus soil:perlite = 3:1 as the matrix for the plantlets were transplanted, the survival rate up to 97%.2、The experiments in different altitudes reveal: with the increase of altitude, the plant height and yield will also increase, high altitude is more conducive to the growth of tuber. It does not flowering in some low altitude area.3、The experiments of different cultivation methods reveal:plastic mulching on the plant height, branch number is better than that of control (CK), reflects the covering film warming effect, can accelerate crop growth and development, promote the growth of plants, but the maximum leaf length, leaf width, leaf number, yield no significant differences.4、In the condition of normal temperature storage, Yacon tuber water content 87.79%, soluble total sugar 13.2%, crude fiber 0.66%.25 to 50 d during storage, soluble total sugar, crude fiber is rising, decreased trend during storage of 50-75d, but little change in water content.
