Application Effect Of Biological Nitrification Inhibitors In Agriculture

Nitrification occurs in the most of the farmland in the world and causes loss of soil nitrogen. This is mainly because of that some ammonia oxidizing bacteria and ammonia oxidizing archaea can perform rapid nitrification and are not been controlled. Nitrification inhibitor is a kind of compounds that could inhibit ammonia oxidizing bacteria and ammonia oxidizing archaea conducting the oxidation of ammonia. It can reduce the accumulation of nitrate in the soil and it’s leaching, thus reduce the environmental pollution. BNI (biological nitrification inhibitor) is a kind of nitrification inhibitor secreted by plants. They can inhibit soil nitrification thus promote nitrogen absorbed and utilized by crops. Both NI and BNI can inhibit the oxidation of ammonium and mitigate nitrate leaching. And help to improve nitrogen use efficiency and protect the environment.With synthetic nitrification inhibitor as control, this study carried out pot experiment to investigate the ability of biological nitrification inhibitor from sorghum, combined with practical effect of synthetic nitrification inhibitor in field trials. We also used hydroponic experiment to find out the factors affect sorghum secreting biological nitrification inhibitor. All these experiments are combined to explore the effect of NI and BNI.The pot experiments proved the existence of nitrification inhibition at sorghum rhizosphere. The field tests have shown that nitrification inhibitor can increase yield under certain nitrogen fertilizer levels. The hydroponic experiments found that different nitrogen forms and different pH of nutrient solution can affect the secretion of biological nitrification inhibitors of sorghum.
