Taking 30-year-old Chinese fir half-sib progeny test forest planted in in Xishan forest farm of Rong’an as the test subject, Progeny test was actualized for one-hundred-two families and three contrasts. Selected fifteen superior families whose growth are in the top 15 made the test for basic density, green density, moisture content of green density and fiber morphology. The purpose of this experiment is to reveal the genetic variation of growth traits in different families and joint the growth and wood quality to select families which have good characters both in growth and wood property. The result is showed below.(1) The mean variation coefficient of DBH in families is 13.63%, the mean variation coefficient of tree height in families is 17.44%, the mean variation coefficient of volume in families is 39.71%, in three growth factors, volume’s variation coefficient in families is the biggest.(2) In one-hundred-two families, the number of families whose DBH are more than contrast is 49, which accounts for 48.0% in participator families. The number of families whose tree height are more than contrast is 45, which accounts for 44.1% in participator families. The number of families whose volume are more than contrast is 47, which accounts for 46.1% in participator families. In the selected twenty-two families, the number of families whose DBH are more than contrast is 22, the number of families whose tree height are more than 15% of contrast is 16, the number of families whose volume are more than 15% of contrast is 22. In the selected fifteen families, the comprehensive gain are all more than 25% of contrast,which can provide breeding good germplasm materials.(3) The range of broad sense heritability of DBH, tree height and volume of Chinese fir is 0.594-0.657, they are all controlled by inheritance in more than the middle. Broad sense heritability’s range of physical indication of wood quality is 0.142-0.592, they are all controlled by inheritance in less than the middle. The range of broad sense heritability of fiber morphology is 0.878-0.934, they are all controlled by strong inheritance. The stability of growth and fiber morphology of Chinese fir is strong, which is beneficial to improve the effect of breeding. The variance of growth factor, basic density and fiber morphology in different families is significant extremely and all the indications’breeding potential is good.(4) The radial variation rule of fiber length, fiber length-width ratio, fiber double wall thickness, fiber double wall thickness to cavity ratio, basic density and green density is:wood in the edge> wood in the middle>wood in the center.(5) Fiber length variance range is 2523.7~2993.2μm,fiber width variance range is 27.8-36.4μm, fiber length-width ratio variance range is 72.97-96.35, the variance range of fiber cavity to width ratio is 0.77-0.82, the variance range of fiber double wall thickness to cavity ratio is 0.23-0.31, which shows that the wood quality of Chinese fir is excellent.(6) Fiber length is positively correlated with fiber length-width ratio significantly, fiber width is positively correlated with fiber length significantly, and negatively correlated with basic density, the correlated relation in three growth indexes is positive significantly. DBH, tree height and volume all have the positive relation to fiber width significantly, have the negative relation with fiber cavity to width ratio, basic density, green density, moisture content of green density. The relation is beneficial to select families which have good characters of growth and wood property.(7) This paper united the growth and wood property to select five superior families whose growth and wood property are all excellent. In the selected five superior families,the comprehensive gain of DBH, tree height and volume is 56.6%, which shows that five superior families have an obvious advantage in growth and wood quality, and they can be used for production and superior seed promotion.
