Brassinosteroids are important plant hormones regulating fruit growth and development. Brassinosteroid receptors recognize BRs and transduce signaling to downstream. Explore the functions of tomato BRs receptor are helpful to enrich the knowledgement of BRs’ effects on fruit development, and necessary to improve the fruit yield and quality of tomato. The tomato BRs receptor gene was isolated and introduced into Micro-tom tomato under the fruit specific promoter control. The fruit developmental changes and quality attributes were evaluated in representative transgenic lines. The main results as follows:Three candidate genes including TFM7, p119 and 2A11 which expressed in fruit specifically were selected. Their transcripts were assessed in different tissues and different fruit developmental stages of tomato cultivar Heinz or wild species Solanum pimpinellifolium. We provide new evidences for their tissue expression patterns.Three vectors were constructed that allowed expression of SlBRI1 under control of the TFM7, p119 or 2A11 promoters for Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated genetic transformation of Micro-tom. At least 18 independent transformed lines for each constructs were generated and confirmed by PCR detection.Transforming p BI121-p119-SlBRI1-GUS into tomato showed a clear fruit specific expression pattern, with increased fruit diameter and lycopene concentration. These results lay the foundation for further improve the yield and quality of tomato by modify the expression level of brassinosteroid receptors.
