With the accelerated pace of urban development, ecological landscape forest has become the new direction and main tree species of urban forestry. Forest color configuration is an important part of aesthetic landscape in ecological Landscape Forest because different configuration produces different viewing experience and aesthetic effect. In this paper, color quantization and configuration research is performed on the main ecological landscape forest in Yangtze River Delta region. The effects of the three essential color properties, landscape viewing distances, and color configurations on ecological landscape forest are summarized to provide a more systematic theoretical basis for future color quantization and configuration with ecological landscape forest.Key findings include:(1) Aesthetic effects are significantly correlated with changes in all of the three essential color properties, hue, purity, and brightness (P<0.01). Aesthetic effects relate to single property changes with quadratic curve (R2> 0.8321). of the three essential color properties, changes in brightness have the most significant effect. Then in purity, and the last in hue. Ranges of the three essential color properties for best aesthetic effects are:hue 22°~226°, purity 35%~70%, and brightness 37%~78%. Aesthetic effects decrease when the values of brightness and purity become low. Different hues will produce different viewing experience. Changes toward green give people a quiet and cold feeling, and changes toward purple make it feel mysterious, magnificent, and exciting.(2) Correlation of viewing distances with the three essential color property values of forest landscape reaches P<0.01, and P<0.05 with aesthetic effects values. Both show significant correlation. Aesthetic effects values changes with viewing distances according quadratic curve (R2=0.8406). As shown in the ecological landscape forest viewing distances and aesthetic effects values, aesthetic effects decrease as viewing distances increase. Although there is slight increase in aesthetic effects values at Medium distance, the overall trend is obviously downward.(3) In ecological landscape forest color distribution patterns, aesthetic effects of all-green landscapes are better than those of all-colored ones. Aesthetic effects of clustered forest landscape are poor compared with single-color mosaic distribution patterned landscape and multi-color distributed clusters. In color patch index analysis, aesthetic effects are most significantly related with the numbers of color patches, then are patch cohesion index and Patch area (mean). Aesthetic effects increase with the number of color patches, and decrease with patch cohesion index and patch sizes. Aesthetic effects values change with the number of color patches according quadratic curve (R2=0.6431).
