Forests as the main part of the terrestrial ecosystem on the earth are the uppermost carbon pool in the terrestrial carbon cycle, and play a distinctly important role in the global climate change. This study uses as a study object the evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain, Hunan province. On the basis of fully understanding the National Technical Guide for Measurement and Monitoring of Carbon Sinks in the Forestry and reading and referring to a lot of research literatures of the same type, this study performs field survey on the sample plot by a sampling design method, constructs a biomass and carbon density estimation model, and determines the biomass, carbon reserve and carbon density of the evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain. The study results show that:(1) The evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain has a stand volume of 106.4 544 m3/hm2, an average biomass of 378.4 575 t/hm2. The tree layer biomass as the main part of the evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain is 361.9 450 t/hm2 and accounts for 95.64% of the total biomass. The undergrowth layer biomass is 15.3 702 t/hm2 and accounts for 4.06% of the total biomass. The litter layer biomass is1.1 423 t/hm2 and accounts for 0.30% of the total biomass.(2) The evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain has an average carbon density of 177.875 tC/hm2. The tree layer is the largest carbon pool layer and has a carbon density of 170.114 tC/hm2, followed by the undergrowth layer carbon density of 7.224 tC/hm2. The litter layer has a carbon density of 0.537 tC/hm2 that is the smallest of them. That is, the spatial distribution sequence is tree layer> undergrowth layer> litter layer.(3) The evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain has a total carbon reserve of 26,752.40 tC. The tree layer carbon reserve is 25,585.15 tC and accounts for 95.64% of the total carbon reserve. The undergrowth layer carbon reserve is 1,086.49 tC and accounts for 4.06% of the total carbon reserve. The litter layer carbon reserve is 80.76 tC and accounts for 0.30% of the total carbon reserve.(4) Calculation results of carbon storage in the evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain and measurement method of carbon sink efficiency, it is concluded that the carbon sequestration value of the evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain is 26.17 669million.The potential of the carbon stock of the evergreen broad leaved forest in the Heng Mountain is enormous,and they play a significance role in the study of forest vegetation carbon sink.The results in this paper could provide a scientific reference for forest management and carbon sink evaluation in this area.
