| More than three hundred Chinese fir species were distributed across 17 provinces in China, which are fast-growing timbers and of high economic value. Chinese fir has been planted in a large scale supplying the society with plenty of wood resources since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Aiming to obtain high yield and good quality of wood resources, the selection, cultivation and promotion of Chinese fir were carried out based on the great diversity of different regions.Considerable achievements on collection, preservation and analysis of Chinese fir germplasm resources have been obtained and rich primary datahas been accumulated since the establishment of the Chinese Academy of Forestry Experimental Center of Subtropical Forestry in 1979, providing a positive foundation for the breeding of germplasm resources of Chinese fir. This research studies the conservation, utilization and selection of germplasm based on the observational resources data in the Chinese Academy of Forestry Experimental Center of Subtropical Forestry, and the results showed that:1.The organizing of plenty germplasm resources and screening of Forest germplasm were analyzed in the Chinese Academy of Forestry Experimental Center of Subtropical Forestry where Chinese fir currently are during their mature period (the felling period). Most of these germplasm resources have shown their commodity nature, high yield ability and suitability of the local climate since they are from Chinese fir germplasm resources collection nursery, provenance experimental forest, seed orchard, progeny determination forest, planting test demonstration forest which were established in the Subtropical Forestry Experimental Center since the 80s of last century.2.183 provenances were investigated one by one and their growth condition were analyzed by obtaining more than 3000 wood among the 30-year Chinese fir provenance test forest. The character cluster analysis was used to select the excellent wood and it turned out that 45 geographical provenances were outstanding and which were used to do annual ring analysis together with the 2 local provenances in order to get provenance differences in different ages.3.Top 10 large gain production areas provenance were elected by comparing the variance F value of different growth stages.4 different geographical provenances were screened as the outstanding ones whose gain production ranked top 10 among 45 selected provenances from infancy period to maturity period and were fast-growing and high-yield during the whole life period. These four provenances should also be considered as key selected objects of fast-growing and high-yield plantation of Dagang Mountain and its surrounding areas. Another 5 different geographical provenances were screened as the good ones whose gain production ranked top 10 during infancy period while its gain production ranked out of top 10 during the mid-aged and maturity period which were as same as Jiangxi Fenyi and Jiangxi Anfu and were called "early fast-growing provenances". Along with them, another 6 different geographical provenances were also elected as "late fast-growing provenances" whose gain production didnt rank top 10 during infancy period while its gain production ranked top 10 when they were mid-aged and maturity period. |
