There was significant correlation between nitrogen application and seed yield production, protein content and malting qualities. Ten two-rowed barley varieties registered in Jiangsu were used as materials in this paper. All the barley varieties were planted in Yangzhou university and Fangqiang farm to conduct a multiple environments experiments. The nitrogen application was set as three levels including Okg/hm2,75kg/hm2,150kg/hm2. After maturity, agronomic and yield characters were investigated for single plant in each materials. The grain protein content and malting qualities were also determined. The main results were as the following:1. Effects of nitrogen application on grain yield and yield components in barleyThere was significantly positive correlation between panicles and nitrogen application, with higher nitrogen application levels, panicles showed a rising trend. While the grain weight had significantly negative correlation to the nitrogen application following nitrogen application showed a rising trend. It was a quadratic regression equation between nitrogen application and the grain yield, and the grain yield increased with the nitrogen application in some of the nitrogen application. Redundant nitrogen application would result in lodging in the case of adverse environment reducing the production. Yangnongpi 5 was the highest yield in three trials while followed by the Yangnongpi 7.2. Influence of nitrogen application on the quality of barleyThe grain protein content had significantly positive correlation to the nitrogen application, showed a rising trend with the increase of the latter. With the rising of the nitrogen application, diastatic power (DP) and alpha amino nitrogen (AN) was an increase trend while kalbach index (KI) and malt extract (ME) was a decrease trend. Variance analysis showed that it was significant or remarkable difference among DP, AN, ME and KI between environment and genotype as well as genotype-nitrogen interaction.3. Optimum nitrogen level, adaptability and stability of yield and quality of the tested varietiesIn this paper, we found that Yangnongpi 5 was equipped with the best yield ability, adaptability and stability, Supi 3 was skilled in higher the DP and the best adaptability and stability; the adaptability and stability of Supi 6 was the best; and the Yangnongpi 4 had a better adaptability and stability in Yangzhou University test site in 2014 and 2015, but it had a better adaptability and poor stability in Fangqiang farm test site in 2015. There was a difference in optimum nitrogen level, adaptability and stability of the AN for the tested barley in all test sites. At the nitrogen level of 150kg/hm2 and Okg/hm2, the content of grain protein(GP) of Supi 6 was the highest, and the adaptability and stability were better.4. The method of comprehensive evaluation on the yield traits and quality traits of barleyIn this paper, the problem of estimation of the yield traits and quality traits of barley was studied by comprehensive evaluation of DTOPSIS. The results showed that Supi 4 was the best with high yield and good quality when the nitrogen application was 0kg/hm2and 75kg/hm2, Supi 3 and Supi 6 was located in the first and second place respectively. When the nitrogen application was 150kg/hm2, Supi 3 was the best with high yield and good quality, followed by Yangnongpi 7; hua 30 was the worse in three nitrogen application levels.
