Biomass and productivity are the basic characteristics of the forest ecosystem structure and function. We measure and study the biomass and productivity of the bamboo grove in Changning County, Sichuan Province in this paper and select the optimal biomass model through the fitting of biomass models of bamboo forests on the basis of research on sample trees. Meanwhile, we estimate unit biomass and unit productivity of the bamboo forests using their optimal biomass models and analyze the feature distribution of biomass and productivity on the basis of site factor analysis. The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:1. Through the investigation on the resources and the classification index of bamboo forests in Changning County, Sichuan Province, bambusa rigida, phyllostachys edulis and pleioblastus amarus are chosen as the representative of the bamboo forests in Changning County as they account for 95.93% of the total bamboo forests and they account for over 5% respectively. At the same time, phyllostachys edulis and pleioblastus amarus are categorized as scattered large-diameter bamboo and bambusa rigida as cluster large-diameter bamboo.2. The moisture content of the organs of the bamboo forests decreases with the increasing of age and the moisture content varies considerably wherein the moisture contents of phyllostachys edulis organs are:leaf>branch>rod; the moisture contents of bambusa rigida organs are:leaf>branch>rod; the moisture contents of annual pleioblastus amarus organs are:rod>branch>leaf; the moisture contents of biennial, and perennial pleioblastus amarus organs are:leaf>branch>rod.3. The above&ground biomass rank of the organs of the phyllostachys edulis is: rod>branch>leaf, and the age distribution of phyllostachys edulis biomass is: triennial>biennial>annual. The above & ground biomass rank of the organs of the bambusa rigida is:rod>branch>leaf, and the age distribution of bambusa rigida biomass is triennial>biennial>annual. The above & ground biomass rank of the organs of the pleioblastus amarus is rod>branch>leaf, and the age distribution of pleioblastus amarus biomass is triennial>biennial>annual. 4. A relational model among age, diameter and biomass is established and the optimal models of the unit biomass of the bamboo forests are selected:phyllostachys edulis:W=0.581*(AD2)0.617; pleioblastus amarus:W=-5.548+2.032*D+0.544*A; bambusa rigida:W=-1.845+0.723*D+0.478*A.5. The biomass and productivity of the bamboo forests are calculated through the unit biomass model in this study and the feature distributions of the bamboo forests are analyzed through the biomass and productivity as well as the analysis of significant factors.6. Site factors influences the productivity of bamboo forests more than the biomass. The distribution of productivity in the bamboo forests is more moderated than that of the biomass. But it differences from each other in different bamboo forests. Site factors influences the pleioblastus amarus most, and the second is bambusa rigida and the last is phyllostachys edulis.
