The Male sterility of plants is a common phenomenon, and LRCMS type is from Chinese cabbage breeding in winter rapeseed sterile material. The study taked research objects of cabbage cytoplasmic male sterility(LRCMS) and its maintainer line in winter rapeseed material, and measured their floral organ morphology and restore relations, and protective enzyme activity which included peroxidase(POD), catalase(CAT) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) as w ell as soluble protein content, and cloned sterile gene in sterile materials. The results show that:1. The floral organs of LRCMS are generally small and have flat petals. Bes ides, flowering is fluent, and the size of anthers are normal but have not the normal function of pollen and even no, and the nectary is also normal and no adverse phenomenon such as grey. Compared with the POL CMS sterility, there were distinct differences between sterile cytoplasm.2. All the materials have the same tendency of POD and SOD activity, and sterile materials of SOD activity were less than maintainers. Furthermore, the SOD activity measured in the flowering stage was higher than the young bud stage. In addition, there were no signif icant differences between the sterile material and its maintainers in soluble protein content during the infant and flowering stage, and both the sterile materials and its maintainers also have not signif icant differences.3. The three copies of LRCMS sterility mater ials have amplif ied out the characteristic belt of sterility gene orf224 in 685 bp which was in line with the of Pol CMS stripe s ize and characteristic bands for Pol CMS sterility genes. The sequence alignment showed that the similar ity of target sequence of three LRCMS sterile material and orf224 was about 97% which indicated that the cabbage type rape the sterility of male sterile material may be associated with orf224 sterility genes.4. Compared with sterile gene orf224 of Pol CMS, the LRCMS sterility materials have high homologous, but is different form the process of growth and development and restore relationship in Pol CMS and OguCMS. Therefore, the LRCMS sterility materials should belong to a kind of new type cabbage winter rapeseed sterile lines.
