Oriental Fruit Fly,Bactrocera dorsalis(Hendel).is an invasive devastating pest.It has caused serious damage to fruits and vegetables in south of China..Review the experiences of the fruit fly control in past decades in foreign countries,SIT is an effective method for the control of Oriental Fruit Fly.1、To utilize sterile insect technique to control Oriental Fruit Fly effectively, the genetic sexing strain for the oriental fruit fly,B.dorsalis based on pupal color was developed. This strain permits the separation of males from females at pupae stage. Results indicated that the genetic sexing strain was stable after genetic testcross. The egg hatch percent, pupal weight, adult emergence rate, flight ability, and longevity under stress were not significantly different compared with the check.2、Male pupae came from the genetic sexing strain(GSS) of B.dorsalis were irradiated by ~60Co at the dose of 90,100 and 105Gy,at -1d.-2d and -3d age respectively. The emergence rate, flight ability and survival percentage under stress were tested. The irradiated male adults mated with unirradiated female after emergence, and 200 eggs at 10d and 17d were collected respectively for measuring the hatch rate. The result showed that age of- 2d was the optimal pupal age for irradiation treatment and the optimal dose was 100Gy.3、Female pupae came from the genetic sexing strain(GSS)of B.dorsalis were irradiated by ~60Co at 1d,2d and 3d separately before emergence and the dosage were 90,100 and 105Gy.The emergence percentage, flight ability and survival percentage under stress were tested. The irradiated female adults mated with unirradiated males and irradiated males came from GSS after emergence, the number of eggs and egg hatch rates were scored for each treatment at 10d and 17d separately. The results showed that the quality control trend of irradiated female were the same as the irradiated male. The irradiated female did not lay egg when mated with irradiated male. The number of eggs decreased sharp when the irradiated females mated with unirradiated normal males, and the number of eggs would decrease with the increase of irradiation dosage and decrease of pupae age.4、Steril males from the irradiated pupae at -2d competed with wild male for wild female. The RSI was 0.4923 and meant both sterile male and wild male almost had equal competitiveness.Sterile males did not move extensively when there were abundant host plant.
