Objective: To investigate the clinical outcome and prognosis of the treatment of sagittalfracture of the mandibular condyle (SFMC) with miniature bone plate. To conclude the clinicalexperience and summarize the pre and post operation management.Method:①During January2007and December2011,the cases with sagittal fracture ofthe mandibular condyle which received the treatment of miniature bone plate wereretrospectively analysed,in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, the affiliatedhospital of ning xia medical university.Information was collected by looking up medicalrecords and clinical rechecking.Occluding relation, maximum opening, opening deflexion andthe height of the mandibular condyle were measured from the clinic and radiology before thetreatment and at the postoperative.②The preoperative CT data of SFMC was recorded in thethree-dimensional reconstruction software (Mimics10.01)and bone fragments was reset, thenthe miniature bone plate was placed to simulate the operation.Result::①The average opening (33.47mm) and opening deflexion inunilateral cases(1.45mm) on3months after the surgery has been significantly improved compared to thatbefore the surgery. In addition, the indications after the surgery have been improved further on6months(38.38mm and1.22mm) than that on the3months (P<0.05).②There is significantdifference in the height of mandibular condyle between postoperation3months (average17.11mm) and the preoperation (average13.37mm). However, there is no significantdifference between6months (average17.06mm) and3months after the operation.③Analyzing the change of height of the mandibular condyle in unilateral cases, comparing to contralateral, there is significant difference(P<0.05)before treatment. The data, however, ofboth3(P=0.738) and6months(P=0.075)after operation have no obvious differences instatistic(P>0.05).④Bone absorption and miniature titanium plate deformation are notfound during the follow-up.⑤The number、type and location can be oberserved visually inthe3-D3-D reconstruction simulating operation of SMFC.Conclusion: SFMC fixed with miniature bone plate is an effective treatment. Using thismethod, opening, occluding relation are all improved and there is no absorption on themandibular condyle. The3-D reconstruction simulating operation of SMFC contributes to thesurgery treatment.
