AIM:To investigate the serum levels of interferon-inducible protein-10(IP-10)in hepatic injury and disease progression in Tibetan patients with chronic hepatitisB(CHB) in Qinghai area.METHODS:40patients with CHB were enrolled for study. All of them areTibetans which have been living in Qinghai area for more than5years, and there isno other interference factors. They were subdivided into two groups:mild-to-moderate and severe.20healthy Tibetans which have been living in Qinghaiarea for more than5years are regarded as control group. Serum levels of IP-10weredetermined by ELISA.RESULTS:The serum levels of IP-10in patients with CHB are significantlyhigher than that in control group. The IP-10level in patients with severe CHB issignificantly higher than that in mild-to-moderate CHB patients (P <0.01). Theserum level of IP-10showed a significantly positive correlation with ALT level.CONCLUSION:Serum level of IP-10correlates with hepatic injury severity inTibetan patients with CHB in Qinghai area. The results indicate that IP-10is involvedin immunopathological mechanism that leads to the development and progression ofCHB.
