Objective: To evaluate the olfactory function changes in patients with chroincrhinosinusitis before and after surgery, in order to realize the damage to the sense ofsmell caused by the disease and to explore the therapeutic effects on the Olfactorydisorder after operation,in order to provide the basis for clinical treatment of CRS.Methods: Olfactory function in58patients (116nostrils) with chronicrhinosinusitis was tested through five odors before operation,10days,20days and30days after operation respectively. The results were statistically analyzed bystatistical methods.Results:(1) Among all the58cases, the ratio of dysosmia was94.8%(109nostrils),while the proportion of olfactory disorder can be divided into normal(5.17%),mild(6.90%),medium(26.72%),severe(31.03%)and (30.17%). The percentageof olfactory disorder showed88.80%at10days,87.07%at20days and86.21%at30days post-operations.(2)Compared with the olfactory function per-operation,significant improvement was found at10days,20days and30days post-operation(allP<0.001);but, there were no statistically significant variation in averaged detectionthresholds of the five odorants during the post operative follow-up(P>0.05).Conclusion:1. Nasal cavity and Paranasal Sinus plays an important role in theimprovement of olfactory impairment in patients with CRS.2. All the58cases hadsome degree olfactory disorder. The Perceived Severity was be exacerbated by theseverity of the disease.3. At the10days time after operation, the olfactory functionwas improved significantly. Between20days and30days post-operation, theimprovement of the sense of smell was not obvious.4. This olfactory improvementwas much less in severe hyposmia cases.
