Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of severe feverwith thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) and to provide effective clues for diseasecontrol as well as improve the knowledge of the SFTS. Methods A descriptiveepidemiological method combined with individual case investigation was to analyze thedata on clinical symptoms, diagnosis and epidemiology collected from diagnosedpatients with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome in city of Dalian during2011-2013. Results In Dalian city, from2011to2013,55local human cases of SFTS wereconfirmed, including16deaths,7regions of Dalian city were found to be endemic with SFTS. Mostcases were50and over residing in hilly region (92.73%), the majority were peasants(90.91%).Thepatients of male to the ones of female ratio was1.29:1.And65.45%of patients were reported fromJuly to August. Some patients had the history of tick bites. They all experienced fever with the bodytemperature ranging from37.1℃to40℃,which average level was39℃. And the fever was themajor onset symptom. Meanwhile, most patients also experiencedfatigue(61.82%),diarrhea(50.91%),anorexia(50.91%),nausea(52.73%) and other non-specificsymptoms.All the patients have the symptoms such as Thrombocytopenia and Leukocytopenia. Conclusions There have been three years since the first diagnosed case founded. The number of thepatients has a growing trend. Therefore, better recognition of the disease early diagnosis andtreatment with strengthening isolation and protection will contribute to reduce mortality potentially.Prevalence of SFTS in Dalian city has growing trend. Thus measures should be taken to enhance thesurveillance and study of this disease.
