Objective To investigate the serum expression of high mobility group protein B1(HMGB1), matrix metalloproteinases9(MMP-9) in laryngeal carcinoma patients, and discuss the correlation between them. Methods The serum expression of HMGB1and MMP-9in laryngeal carcinoma patients, patients with precancerous lesions and healthy people were tested by ELISA and analyzed statistically. Results The serum expression of HMGB1and MMP-9in laryngeal carcinoma patients were significantly higher than patients with precancerous lesions and healthy people (P<0.05), and the levels of HMGB1and MMP-9were related with tumor staging, lymph node metastasis (P<0.05); But the serum expression of HMGB1and MMP-9were not correlated with age, gender, degree of differentiation and location of lesions (P>0.05); Besides, the serum levels of HMGB1was positively related with MMP-9in patients with laryngeal carcinoma (r=0.578, P<0.01)Conclusion HMGB1and MMP-9may take part in the progress of laryngeal carcinoma; there is a synergistic effect between HMGB1and MMP-9.
