Clinical Research On Functional Constipation Of Lung And Spleen Qi Deficiency Treated By Acupoint Catgut Embedding Therapy

ObjectiveThis research aims at exploring an effective acupuncture method in treating Functional Constipation of lung and spleen deficiency, according to observing the scores of primary symptoms, secondary symptoms and Bristol shape, and the scores of the quality of life quality(PAC-QOL) before and after the2therapy.Methods60cases accorded with the diagnostic standard of Functional Constipation of lung and spleen deficiency syndrome were randomly divided into2groups,30cases in the catgut embedding therapy group and30cases in traditional Chinese medicine group. The catgut embedding therapy group cases were treated once a week, and the medicine group cases were treated with Huangqi Decoction(once a day). Both groups were treated for4weeks(2courses,2weeks for1course). Comparing the he scores of primary symptoms, secondary symptoms and Bristol shape, and the scores of the quality of life quality(PAC-QOL) before and after the therapy.Results1. By statistics analysis, there was no significant difference between the two groups on age sex and course of disease(P>0.05). Scores of primary symptoms, secondary symptom, Bristol shape scores and the quality of life scores were all of comparability before treatment(P>0.05);2. After a2-course (4weeks) treatment, the total effective rate of the treatment group (the catgut imbedding group) was76.67%, and the effective rate of the control group(the medicine group)was80%, the rates of the two groups were of no difference(P>0.05) while after the1-course(2weeks) treatment the effective rate of the treatment group is lower than the control group(P<0.05). The study result suggested that the efficacy of the2groups were similar.3. The changes of scores of primary symptoms, secondary symptoms were both significant after the2-course treatment (P<0.05). But there was no statistical difference between the two groups (P>0.05). What s more, scores of all symptoms began to decrease after1week’s administration(P<0.05).The scores of Bristol shape were significantly decreased after1course treatment in both groups(P<0.05),but the scores of the two groups after the2-course treatment and the1-course treatment were of no significant difference(P>0.05), which meant the imbedding therapy can improve the stool shapes, similar to the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The scores of the quality of life(PAC-QOL) were decreased after a course treatment in both groups (P<0.05), and the scores after the2-course treatment are lower than the1-course treatment(P<0.05), but there was no statistical difference between the2groups(P>0.05).The result indicated that imbedding therapy can improve the living quality.4. There were significant differences between before and after the treatment stopped for2weeks in scores of primary symptoms and the secondary symptoms. But there were no statistical differences in these scores between the2-course treatment and the after-2-week in the treatment group, but not in the control group. It suggested that the curative effect after the treatment stopped for2weeks of treatment group was steady than the control group.The scores of the Bristol shape after the treatment stopped for2weeks were not statistically different to the2-course treatment, which meaned that the improvement of the Bristol shape was steady in the treatment group after the treatment stopped for2weeks, similar to the control group.The scores of the life quality after the treatment stopped for2weeks were not statistically different to the2-course treatment in treatment group(P>0.05) while in the control group the scores were statistically different to the2-course treatment (P<0.05), which meaned that the improvement of the life quality were steady in the treatment group than the control group.5. The curative effect was independent of the course of disease in both groups(P>0.05). ConelusionCatgut embedding therapy had a significant clinical effect on functional constipation of lung and spleen qi deficiency. It is effective not only on relieving the primary and secondary symptoms but also on improving the Bristol shape and the life quality. It has a much steady treating effect on symptons than traditional Chinese medicine, but there was a similar steady effect on living life on the2therapy.
