ObjectiveBy investigating the efficacy of postoperative rehabilitation after unilateral total knee arthroplasty with early use of abdominal acupuncture treatment, compared to the efficacy with conventional rehabilitation therapy, in order to provide a convenient, effective and safety rehabilitative treatment.MethodsIn the orthopedics department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital, patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis and accepted total knee replacement within March2013to March2014were enrolled as the research objects.65patients were grouped using the method of randomized controlled trials into two groups: the treatment group (group A) and the control group (group B). Patients in group A were treated by abdominal acupuncture when doing exercise with CPM after the arthroplasty, in addition to the basic rehabilitation treatment. Patients in group B were treated with basic rehabilitation treatment only. In two weeks, the patients were evaluated with visual analogue scale every day. After three days’, one week’s and two weeks’treatment, the rom of knee and are measured. While the HSS scores and the strength of quadriceps are measured after two weeks. And record the adverse events during the treatment. Use SPSS19.0to detect the difference between two groups with t-test.ResultsAmong65individuals,2failed to be followed, the rest of63individuals completed the final test,32of them were in treatment group,31of them were in control group. Between the two groups, the gender, age, course, location, VAS score, Rom, quadriceps’ strength, HSS score showed no significant difference, indicating the identification in general condition. The VAS of group A are lower than group B in the first three day, but with no statistical significant, then from the fourth day, it began to show significant difference gradually (p<0.05), the maximum difference occurred in sixth day. In the first three day, the Rom of knee in group A were greater than group B, but with no statistical difference, but it showed significant difference after one weeks’ and two weeks’treatment (p<0.05). The Hss score and muscle strength of the second week have no significant difference between two groups (p>0.05).ConclusionUsing abdominal acupuncture as the early postoperative rehabilitation treatment after TKA helps reducing the pain of knee and improving the muscle strength and range of motion. Abdominal acupuncture can serve as a convenient, effective and safety rehabilitative treatment after TKA.
