Objective: To investigate the possible role of hepcidin iniron-deficiency anemia secondary to uterine leiomyoma, and the important roleof bone morphogenetic protein-6in the course of hepcidin secretion by detectingthe serum concentration of hepcidin and bone morphogenetic protein-6varies inpatients suffered from uterine leiomyoma before and after operation.Methods:152cases of uterine leiomyoma before operation,whichcontins48patients without IDA, while the remaining with IDA, the all152casesalso was divided mild anemia, moderate anemia and severe anemia by theconcentration of hemoglobin; another91cases were collected60days later afteroperation, one of68cases were with IDA before operation, the other withoutIDA;29cases pure IDA were collected also; thirty normal healthy people forcontrastthe. Blood samples were collected in the next morning in All of302subjects, collected blood samples were used to test the concentration ofhemoglobin by Automatic blood cell analyzer(model: Sysmex XE-5000),conventional biochemical by automatic biochemical immunological analyzer(model: Cobas-8000) and ferritin by automatic chemiluminescenceanalyzer(model: E-170). Another302serum samples were saved inrefrigerator(-80℃) for testing serum hepcidin and BMP-6. All the experimentaldata was analyzed by SPSS17.0,the relation among the concentration of hepcidin、BMP-6、hemoglobin and ferritin were analyzed by Linear correlationanalysis, the concentration of hepcidin and BMP-6as well as ferritin andconventional biochemical were analyzed by Univariate analysis of variancecompletely random, while the concentration of hepcidin and BMP-6as well asferritin whether IDA or not in the patients with IDA secondary to UterineLeiomyoma were analyzed by Independent sample t test.Results:(1)、There have no difference among groups in biochemical tests;(2)、Serum level of hepcidin as well as bone morphogenetic protein-6in uterineleiomyoma was significantly higher than which in healthy controls and pureiron-deficiency anemia (P<0.01);(3)、Both hepcidin and bone morphogeneticprotein-6showed the highest leve, and increased by the degree of anemia;(4)、After operation, the hepcidin and bone morphogenetic protein-6level wassignificantly lower than before operation(P<0.01);(5)、There was a negativecorrelation between hepcidin and ferritin(P<0.01), and between hepcidin andhemoglobin as well (P<0.01), the same result appeared in between bonemorphogenetic protein-6and ferritin(P<0.01), also between bone morphogeneticprotein-6and hemoglobin(P<0.01); while the positive correlation betweenhepcidin and bone morphogenetic protein-6in iron-deficiency anemiasecondary to uterine leiomyoma.Conclusions:(1)The concentration of hepcidin and bone morphogeneticprotein-6were significant high in uterine leiomyoma;(2)Hepcidin may play animportant role in the iron deficiency anemia secondary to uterine leiomyoma;(3)The change of serum hepcidin may have certain relevance with bonemorphogenetic protein-6in the iron deficiency anemia secondary to uterineleiomyoma.
