ObjectiveThrough studying basic informations, medical history, clinical signs and syndromes, ancillary tests, as well as TCM syndrome factors of the COPD patients, we would like to summarize the clinical phenotypes and TCM syndromes on COPD and study the correlation between each phenotype and TCM syndrome.MethodsAdopting the cross-sectional survey, we selected the hospitalized patients of COPD in Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital (GDTCM hospital) from January2013to February2014and survey their information. Analysis by using PASW Statistics18.0.ResultsThe study included a total of513cases.308cases were effective in the cluster of clinical phenotypes and503in the cluster of TCM syndromes.(1) Clusters of clinical phenotype managed in four types:â…  "Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, age>80, BMI>24, recurrent AECOPD, CAT11-20"; â…¡ "Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, age>80, BMI18.5-23.9, recurrent AECOPD, CAT>20"; â…¢ "Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, age<80, BMI<18.5, recurrent AECOPD, CAT11-20";â…£ "Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, age<80, BMI18.5-23.9, non-recurrent AECOPD, CAT<10"(2) Clusters of TCM syndrome managed in four types:â…  "deficiency of both QI and YIN, phlegm-heat-stasis obstructing lung";â…¡ "YANG deficiency of spleen and kidney, phlegmatic obstructing lung";â…¢ "QI deficiency of spleen and kidney, phlegmatic obstructing lung";â…£ "YANG deficiency of spleen and kidney, phlegmatic-stasis obstructing lung"(3) Clinical phenotypeâ…¡was positively correlative with TCM syndrome â…  Clinical phenotypelV was positively correlative with TCM syndromeâ…£. There were no correlations between the other clinical phenotypes and TCM syndromes.(4) TCM syndrome â…  and smoking index was positively correlated. TCM syndromeâ…£ and emphysema was negatively correlated.ConclusionsUnder the condition of "Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, age>80, BMI18.5-23.9","recurrent AECOPD, CAT11-20" is more likely belongs to the syndrome of "deficiency of both QI and YIN, phlegm-heat-stasis obstructing lung". Otherwise "non-recurrent AECOPD, CAT<10" is more likely belongs to the syndrome of "YANG deficiency of spleen and kidney, phlegmatic-stasis obstructing lung". There is some relevancese between Clinical phynotype and TCM syndrome, which may inspire the breakthrough for the integrative medicine for diagnosis and treatment on COPD.
