purpose:To understand the basic situation of pupils’eating nutrition breakfast behavior in the poor county in Shanxi province; to evaluate the intervening effect on pupils’nutrition breakfast related behaviors by nutrition health education based on nutrition knowledge lectures, issuing of nutrition publicity materials and carrying out the parent-teacher conference; to provide scientific method and basis for improving pupils’eating nutrition breakfast behaviors.Method:Using stratified cluster random sampling method,dividing the primary schools to urban area and town area by local economic condition and school scale, choosing3schools in urban area and1center primary school plus2village primary schools in town area. Selecting two classes from Grade1,3and5of each primary school randomly as the research objects (every grade in town area primary schools only has1class, then selecting all students in grade1,3and5). For the two classes from each school, one is as the treatment group, the other one is as the control group (the two village schools, one as the treatment group, the other as the control group). Implementing nutrition health education to treatment group students mainly based on nutrition lectures and issuing of nutrition Publicity materials. Doing the questionnaire survey about nutrition breakfast cognitive behavior to all research objects before and after the intervention; and evaluating the intervening effect on pupils’nutrition breakfast eating related behaviors.Results:1. Basic information:totally investigating1184pupils in grade1,3and5:566pupils in control group and618pupils in treatment group. Finally, investigating531pupils in control group,35pupils were lost to follow up, the lost follow up rate is6.2%; investigating569pupils in control group,49pupils were lost to follow up, the lost follow up rate is7.9%. There is no significant difference (P>0.05) between the lost follow up rate between the treatment group and control group.2. Among the investigated1184pupils, the rate of eating breakfast every day is58.2%, the rate of eating breakfast often is24.7%, the rate of eating breakfast occasionally is17.1%. pupils’breakfast eating rate decreases as the grade increases. The rate of pupils eating breakfast every day in urban area is higher than the town area. The rate of pupils eating breakfast while walking or from the flowing stalls on road side is higher. The main reason of pupils not eating breakfast is loss of appetite, no time to eat, nobody making breakfast for them, breakfast is not delicious as snacks or it’s easier to be fat by eating breakfast.3. There is significant difference from the breakfast dietary pattern of urban area pupils and town area pupils; there is no significant difference by gender. The rate of reasonable breakfast dietary pattern decreases as the grade increases, pupils lack nutrition and food hygiene knowledge.4. Influence of Intervention on nutrition breakfast related KAPraccording to nutrition health education, the frequency of eating breakfast, dietary pattern of pupils from treatment group become more rational. Conclusion:In this county, the frequency of pupils eating breakfast is lower than national level; the dietary pattern is unreasonable; pupils have some knowledge about nutrition breakfast, but not complete and deep, the pupils do not get the efficient paths to obtain nutrition knowledge. The intervention on pupils’ nutrition breakfast related behaviors by nutrition health education based on nutrition knowledge lectures, issuing of nutrition publicity materials and carrying out the parent-teacher conference improves pupil’s eating behaviors, and play a positive role in promoting pupils reasonable eating dietary pattern.
