OBJECTIVEWith the wide use of broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents, multidrug-resistantacinetobacter baumannii appear constantly and the infection due to it become a significantchallenge to modern healthcare systems. As the treatment options are very limited, probingnew agent is very important. It becomes necessary to find a new way for the the treatment ofmultiple drug resistant acinetobacter baumannii infection from the traditional Chinesemedicine screening drug-resistant bacteria resistant active ingredients. Some heat-clearing anddetoxifying drugs are commonly used to reverse bacterial drug resistance, such as rhizomacoptidis, radix scutellariae, cortex phellodendri, radix et rhizoma rhei. To some extent, theycan reverse the role of bacterial drug resistance. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a newkind of Chinese medicine formulations, is on the rise in recent years. To investigate theinhibitory effects of14kinds of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to avoid Fried particlesagainst multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. Those Traditional Chinese medicinemonomer which have better inhibitory effects will combined with6kinds of antibioticsrespectively. To investigate the antibacterial effects of berberine hydrochloride and baicalicombined with6kinds of antibiotics on multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. METHODS1.4clinical strains of multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, selected according toresults of drug susceptibility tests. Microdilution method was used to detect the inhibitoryeffects of14kinds of kinds of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to avoid Fried particlesagainst multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii.2. According to the screening result of the early Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)toavoid Fried particles, gallnut, rhizoma coptidis, radix scutellariae, cortex phellodendri havebetter antibacterial effect. As a result, we choose berberine hydrochloride and baicalin themain extract of rhizoma coptidis and radix scutellariae to carry out the following in vitrobacteriostasis experiment. Microdilution method was used to detect the Minimum InhibitoryConcentration.3.7clinical strains of multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, selected according toresults of drug susceptibility tests. Microdilution method was used to detect the inhibitoryeffects of berberine hydrochloride and baicalin combined with antibiotics.RESULTS1. All the herbs have different inhibitory effects, among which gallnut shows thestrongest inhibitory effect, then are coptis,Scutellaria baicalensis, golden cypress, fruit ofChinese magnoliavine,rhubarb.2. The consistency are basically identical of baicalin and berberine hydrochloride on theresistant strains and of the standard strains. The MIC is about256~512μg/ml.3. There were synergistic effect between berberine hydrochloride and Imipenem andCilastatin Sodium, aztreonam. There was synergistic effect between baicalin and aztreonam. There were additive effect between berberine hydrochloride and ceftazidime, baicalin andImipenem and Cilastatin Sodium. Piperacillin/Tazobactam combined with two chinesemedicine monomer show additive effect. The bacteriostatic action of Levofloxacin and gatifloxacin combined with two chinese medicine monomer is not stable, even hasantagonism.CONCLUSIONS1. Gallnut and coptis might be have antibacterial effects against Acinetobacter baumannii, which could be have certain development value and application prospect for the treatment ofit.2. Berberine hydrochloride and baicalin might be have antibacterial effects againstAcinetobacter baumannii, which could be enhanced when being combined with otherantibiotics. It may offer help for the treatment of multiple drug resistant acinetobacterbaumannii infection.
