Clinical Study On Knee Osteoarthritis In Treatment Of Acupuncture And Different Moxibustion

ObjectiveIn order to discus the efficacy of different moxibustion by treating on Knee Osteoarthritis (referred to as KOA) patients and find a more effective way, this study observe the patients’ symptoms, physical signs and curative effect by a study compare the different efficacy by treatment on KOA patients with acupuncture and different moxibustion.MethodsThe study strictly adopts70KOA patients according to the diagnostic criteria in Research Guidelines of TCM Clinical which is promulgated by Ministry of Health. They were randomly divided in a1:1ratio to test group of treatment by suspended moxibustion and test group of treatment by needle warming moxibustion. Acupoints picked by the two groups were EX-LE4, ST34, ST36, SP9, GB34. After acupuncture, the group of treatment by suspended moxibustion retains the needle30min. Then light2moxa sticks at the same time and put them to the place above EX-LE42~3cm for30min. The group of treatment by needle warming moxibustion need to cut a moxa stick into some piece. Every piece is about1.5cm. Then put2pieces on the needle handles which work in EX-LE4. Light the2moxa pieces and keep30min. You can put a card on the skin for avoiding scaid. When the moxa piece burn up, you replace the moxa a new one. Every course included10times. Every patient needs20times treatment. The patients are treated once a day in the first course and take a3-day-rest after it. Then the patients begin the second course which is treated once2days. If any patients are healed before finishing the2couses, I will record his data and stop treatment. If not, I will observe the long-term curative effect untill finishing the2courses. To record the data, I use Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), knee circumferences, JOA score and Lequesne MG. Results1. Comparing the2groups above mentioned records of before treatment and after treatment, both two groups’data shows significant differences (P<0.01) and shows their effectiveness.2. Comparing the knee circumferences, JOA score and Lequesne MG, the2groups’data shows differences (P<0.05). And comparing the VAS scores, the2groups’had now differences (P>0.05). They show that the treatment of suspended moxibustion on KOA patients is better than needle warming moxibustion by knee circumferences, JOA score and Lequesne MG. The2groups have almost same effective by VAS.3. After treatment, the suspended moxibustion group is2cases in clinical control,7in markedly efficient,20in efficient,3in nullity. Needle warming moxibustion group is4cases in clinical control,15in markedly efficient,10in efficient,2in nullity. Checked by K-S, the curative effect between the two groups have statistical significance (P<0.05). It shows instructions for curative effect index, needle warming moxibustion is better than that of suspended moxibustion.ConclusionComparing the two kinds of moxibustion treatment of KOA, the comprehensive efficacy of needle warming moxibustion is better than that of suspended moxibustion, mainly reflected in eliminating swelling, improve survival quality and curative effect index contrast. And they have the similar effect in relief of pain.
