Objective: To analyze the effects of intervention of stress and coping on caregiver burden,psychological resilience and coping styles for caregivers of patients with colorectal cancerso as to provide the basic reference for reducing caregiver burden of caregivers of patientswith colorectal cancer and improve their mental state.Methods: From March2013to November2013,71caregivers of patients with colorectalcancer came from Department of Oncology of a grade A class three hospital in Hengyangcity, and were randomly divided into the control group (n=36) and the experimental group(n=35). After completed the baseline survey, the caregivers in the control group weretreated with a conventional health education, the caregivers in the experimental group weretreated with a conventional health education and comprehensive nursing intervention.Thecomprehensive nursing intervention methods included qualitative interviews, lectures,psychological support, skills training, care skills training, caregivers experience sharingparty, telephone follow-up and so on. Before intervention, after1month and3monthsintervention, their caregiver burden, psychological resilience and coping styles weremeasured by Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (ZBI), Simplified Coping styleQuestionnaire (SCSQ) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the effectsof intervention of stress and coping were assessed. In this study, SPSS13.0statisticalsoftware was used to analyze the study data, all data were analyzed by the followingstatistical methods: Descriptives, Independent-Samples T Test, the Chi-Square Test,2Independent Samples Tests, Repeated Measures, and so on.Results:1. Before intervention, the scores of caregivers’ caregiver burden, psychologicalresilience, positive coping style and negative coping style in the control group and in theexperimental group were respectively [(31.23±10.07),(32.24±12.43)],[(56.33±12.99), (56.28±13.43)],[(18.35±6.86),(18.94±6.58)] and [(12.77±3.79),(13.10±3.71)], thedifference was not stistically significant (P>0.05).2. In the first month after intervention, the scores of caregivers’ caregiver burden,psychological resilience, positive coping style and negative coping style in the controlgroup and in the experimental group were respectively [(34.02±8.97),(27.81±9.29)],[(56.13±12.11),(62.61±10.84)],[(17.79±6.96),(20.59±4.89)] and [(13.79±3.43),(11.92±3.81)]. The score of optimsim dimension of psychological resilience in the control groupwas [9.12±2.06], the score of optimsim dimension of psychological resilience in theexperimental group was [9.51±2.38], the difference was not stistically significant (P>0.05).The score of positive coping style in the control group was [17.79±6.96], the score ofpositive coping style in the experimental group was [20.59±4.89], the difference was notstistically significant (P>0.05). The socres of psychological resilience, tolerance dimension,strength dimension in the the experimental group were higher than that in the control group,and there were all statistical difference (P<0.05). The scores of negative coping style,caregiver burden, social burden dimension and personal burden dimension in theexperimental group were lower than that in the control group, and there were all statisticaldifference (P<0.05).3. In the third month after intervention, The scores of caregivers’ caregiver burden,psychological resilience, positive coping style and negative coping style in the controlgroup and the experimental group were respectively [(32.60±9.99),(25.31±8.30)],[(58.07±11.72),(68.61±11.39)],[(18.51±6.27),(22.05±5.31)] and [(13.25±3.17),(10.51±4.02)]. The socres of positive coping style, psychological resilience, tolerance dimension,strength dimension and optimsim dimension in the the experimental group were higherthan that in the control group, and there were all statistical difference (P<0.05). The scoresof negative coping style,caregiver burden, social burden dimension and personal burdendimension in the experimental group were lower than that in the control group, and therewere all statistical difference (P<0.05).Conclusion:1. The caregiver burden of caregivers of patients with colorectal cancer could be reduced by intervention of stress and coping.2. The psychological resilience of caregivers of patients with colorectal cancer couldbe increased by intervention of stress and coping.3. The coping styles of caregivers of patients with colorectal cancer could beimproved by intervention of stress and coping.
