Background:With the development of computed tomography(CT)and contrast-enhanced technology,CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA)isengaged as a reliable method of detection of diagnosis or ruling outpulmonary embolism(PE). Because of its sensitivity and speciality,CTPAis the most common means in clinically diagnosing PE now. CTobstruction index(CTI) can quantify the severity of pulmonary arteryobstruction.Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence andseverity of PE in patients with different leg deep vein thrombosis(DVT)by computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA).Method: Retrospectively analyzed data of145cases who had beenconfirmed DVT and undergone CTPA. The DVTs were divided into leftside DVT,right side DVT and bilateral lower DVT groups. Compared theincidence of PE in different group. Used CT obstruction index (CTI) inestimating the severity of pulmonary artery obstruction. And Compared different groups’ DVT/PEs with CTI.Result: The incidence of PE of the bilateral lower DVT group was71.4%,which was higher than in left side DVT group (39.2%), But thedifference between bilateral lower DVT group and right side DVT group(52.9%) did not show statistical significance (P>0.05).The CTI of thebilateral lower DVT (30.20±14.20%) was higher than the left side DVT(19.26±14.02%) and the right side DVT (18.56±11.79%)(P<0.05).Conclusion: The bilateral lower DVT was more likely complicated byPE than the left side DVT, the severity of pulmonary artery obstruction ofthe bilateral lower DVT with PE patient was higher than single side DVTwith PE patient.
