<Treatise On Exogenous Febrile Diseases>Research On Treatment Of Diarrhea Disease Syndrome

Objective:Through the exploration of the syndromes and treatments contents of "diarrhea disease" in the Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases, to comprehend in depth the real spirit of its syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology, to provide practical applications using the methods from the classic medical formula in the treatment "diarrhea disease"Method:This research uses literature search and review to obtain summaries of the syndromes and treatments contents of "diarrhea disease" in the Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases. Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases is based on the six-meridians syndrome differentiation. Thus the research begins by finding the relationship between "diarrhea disease" and the six meridians. From which eleven types were identified, as listed below:1.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of表邪未解,邪陷入里；2.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of燥热内结,逼津旁流；3.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of少阳受邪,内迫阳明；4.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of肝经湿热,下注大肠；5.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of肝气犯胃,升降失司；6.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of脾虚失运,�'湿内生；7.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of水饮内停,下趋大肠；8.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of�'热错杂,升降失常；9.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of肾阳虚衰,脾阳失煦；10.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of阴虚火旺,逼津下趋；11.Syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology of统摄无权,关门不固.The above are sorted and tidied through review of ancient and modern medical literatures.Results:Through the above research, it was revealed that the "diarrhea disease" in the Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases not only involved the entire treatment and diagnosis based on the6-meridian syndrome differentiation,it also included diagnostic principles such as:Yin-Yang, Exterior-Interior, Cold-Heat, Deficiency-Excess, Life-Death, etc. Not only did it broadened the treatment and diagnosis of the "diarrhea disease", it also provided inspirational concepts to the treatment and diagnosis of other sicknesses. Traditionally, the "assisted heat diarrhea" was considered as any diarrhea with the exterior syndrome not yet resolved; but in accordance with clause258of the Yang Ming Chapter, it was referred as passing stool with pus and blood with heat in the blood system not yet resolved, it indicates the heat in the "assisted heat diarrhea" did not exclusively refer to the exterior heat, it should also include heat in the blood system. Therefore,"assisted heat diarrhea" should be a diarrhea disease with exterior heat or heat in the blood system not yet resolved when comparing with diarrhea diseases of the interior syndrome category. Diarrhea with interior/exterior/deficiency or excess syndrome would normally be considered as a disease; however, clauses110、278、287, etc consider diarrhea as a phenomenon of sickness recovery, belonging to syndromes of positive energy restored with evil qi expelled or Yang returned with recovery approaching. All these would definitely enrich Chinese Medicine’s thinking on the reformative approach on syndrome differentiation.Conclusion:In summary, it could be shown that the syndromes and treatments contents of "diarrhea disease" in the Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases fully reflected the holistic approach of TCM’s philosophy of syndrome differentiation. It also laid the foundation of syndrome differentiation and treatment methodology for "diarrhea disease" and provided inspiration and insights for the differentiation and treatment methodology for other diseases.
