ObjectiveTo comparative analyse the suited dose, efficacy, course of treatment and safety of low-dose citalopram and doxepin (DXP) in adults diagnosed with comorbid insomnia with anxiety disorders.MethodsThe study was a randomized parallel-group trial.78cases of patients with comorbid insomnia with anxiety disorders were randomized to12weeks of treatment with citalopram20mg (n=39) or DXP3mg (n=39). Efficacy data were examined for baseline, the forth, eighth and twelfth weekend with Pttsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA). Safety assessments were conducted throughout the study.ResultsIn terms of Compared with citalopram20mg, DXP12.5mg significantly improved difficulty falling sleep(DFA) on Eighth weekend (P=0.002), Twelfth weekend (P<0.001). As well as citalopram20mg, DXP12.5mg demonstrated significant improvements in total sleep time, daytime disfunction and quality of somnus at points (P>0.05). Along with the overall level of sleep, anxiety is also improved. And there was no statistically significant difference in adverse events of the two groups (P=0.404).ConclusionLow-dose citalopram can be used for long-term treatment of insomnia patients comorbid anxiety disorders, in view of that could significantly improved their quality of somnus and anxiety symptoms. Low-dose DXP appears well-suited as a treatment for insomnia with anxiety disorders, especially difficulties initiating sleep as the main performance.
