AIMs:To investigate LSDl,E-cadherin expression in gastric cancer specimens and tissue adjacent to cancer and their clinical significance. Methods:The expression of LSD1, E-cadherin in gastric cancer specimens and tissue adjacent to cancer was determined by immunohistochemistry, and the relationship between the expression of the respective molecules and clinicopathological characteristic was analyized. Results:The positive expression rates of the LSD1in gastric cancer specimens and tissue adjacent to cancer were67.5%(54/80) and43.8%(35/80) respectively, There were significant differences (/2=9.141, P=0.002), while the positive expression rates of the E-cadherin in gastric cancer specimens and tissue adjacent to cancer were63.8%(51/80) and81.3%(65/80) respectively, There were significant differences(x2=6.14, P=0.013).LSDlwas significantly more highly expressed in gastric cancer specimens with high TNM stage and low histologic grade,as well as lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). However, E-cadherin expression was significantly downregulated in gastric cancer specimens with high TNM stage and low histologic grade, as well as Lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). Correlation analysis revealed that LSD1expression was negatively correlated with E-cadherin expression(r=-0.355, P=0.001).The patient with positive LSD1expression and negative E-cadherin expression were correlated with significantly lower overall survival (P<0.05).Conclusions:1.LSD1showed a significantly higher expression in gastric cancer specimens than that in tissue adjacent to cancer; while E-cadherin showed a significantly lower expression in gastric cancer specimens than that in tissue adjacent to cancer.2. LSD1showed significantly higher expression, in contrast to the significantly lower expression of E-cadherin, in gastric cancer specimens classified as high TNM stage and low histologic grade. LSD1expression was negatively correlated with E-cadherin expression.3. LSD1showed significantly higher expression, in contrast to the significantly lower expression of E-cadherin, in gastric cancer specimens with lymph node metastasis; And only E-cadherin was significantly higher expression in gastric cancer with distant metastasis.4.Positive expression of LSD1and negative expression of E-cadherin may be predictors of a worse prognosis in gastric cancer.Ten figures, five tables and fifty-two references in this paper.
