Methods: Randomized controlled trial(RCT) in relevant databases: Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Web ofKnowledge, Ebsco, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, ChinaNational Knowledge Internet, Wanfang Data and VIP from1900to April2013were searched. Quality of the literature of included was evaluated anddata was extracted. Review Manager5.0software was used for Metaanalysis. Results: Seven RCTs of461patients were included in our study,230patients in MECT plus SSRI group and231patients in SSRI group.Meta analysis results indicated that effective rate and curative rate ofMECT plus SSRI group is better than those of SSRI group, withstatistically differences(curative rate: Z=4.52,P<0.00001;effective rate:Z=7.71,P<0.00001).In addition, incidence of recent memory disorders inMECT plus SSRI group was higher than that of SSRI group(P=0.013).There was no difference in the rest of side effects between twogroups (P>0.05). Conclusions: MECT plus SSRI is an effective and safety method in the treatment-resistant depression.
