Objectives: To explore the adverse effect of ganciclovir when used totreat cytomegalovirus infectious infants and to describe the incidence ofdifferent adverse effects. Methods: Our subjects were111infant patients diagnosed CMV infectionand treated with ganciclovir in Children’s Hospital of Chongqing MedicalUniversity between January2011and February2014. The clinic data(including rash, tremor, convulsion, vomiting, irritability and crying) andlaboratory results (including blood routine examination and hepatorenalfunction) were collected and analysed retrospectively.Results:1. The incidences of granulocytopenia and anemia were19.09%(21/110)、13.63%(15/110)respectively.1of the granulocytopenia wasgrade Ⅳ and20were grade Ⅲ. All anemia were grade Ⅲ. WBC and ANCafter using GCV were lower than that before using the drug significantly (P<0.05), while HB and PLT were higer.2. There were24.77%(27/109)infants who suffered from liver function damage. ALT, AST and DB afterusing GCV were lower than that before using the drug significantly (P <0.05),49.54%,37.61%and18.69%infants have transient elevations in the three items respectively, and these episodes were asymptomatic.3. Allinfants’ renal function were normal in the drug course, BUN and Cr wereinsignificant (P>0.05).4. There were22.52%(25/111)allergic reactions, they were characterized by local rash.5. The incidence in induction therapyperiod were higher than that of maintenance treatment period. And theadverse effects were usually maild and reversible. Conclusions: GCV could cause bone marrow suppression, liver functiondamage, allergic reactions. The adverse effects often occurred in theinduction therapy period, and were usually maild and reversible. Doctorsshould firstly screen babies’ blood routine examination and hepatorenalfunction before using GCV, monitor strictly during the drug course, and dealwith them as soon as possible.
