Objective:To summarize the characteristics of lung cancer in local patients and systematically analyze and inherit Professor Zhang Yonghong’s experience in treating lung cancer, in order to further improve the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in treating lung cancer. Methods:The lung cancer cases recorded by Professor Zhang during the past four years are the basis for the research. According to the inclusive and exclusive criteria, all cases undergone a rigorous screening processand205cases were chosen, and then these data was stored in Epidate software to establish a lung cancer datebase. Preprocessing the date in accordance with established standard was the next step and followed by date mining technology like frequency analysis, association analysis and factor analysis. These methods were used to analyze the general features of the patients and to analyze the clinical experience of Professor Zhang in treating different patients. The final mining results were analyzed, summarized and generalized by integrating clinical reality and Professor Zhang’s view to obtain systematic experience of Professor Zhang in treatment of lung cancer. Results:Among all205cases,105are male and90are female, the average age is60.34years old. Common symptoms include fatigue, anorexia, chest congestion, cough without phlegm or less sputum, shortness of breath, chest pain, dry mouth, asthma, diarrhea, cough with abundance of phlegm. Pink tongue, red tongue, thin white fur, little fur, thready pulse, stringy pulse and slippery pulse are the main tongue and pulse manifestations. The major pathogenesis closely relates to the deficiency of lung qi and yin, deficiency of spleen and stomach qi, blood stasis obstruction, dampness phlegm stagnancy, cancerous toxins accumulation. Chaobaizhu(largehead atractylodes rhizome), dangshen(tangshen), huangqi(milkvetch root), huangjing(solomonseal rhizome), shengmaiya(germinated barley), yiyiren(coix seed), gouqizi(barbary wolfberry fruit), danggui(Chinese angelica), fuling(Indian bread), baihe(lily bulb) are commonly used drugs by Professor Zhang. Patients with different TNM stage, distant metastasis and different previous treatment show varied clinical manifestations, so the corresponding prescriptions are different. Conclusion:According to this study, the symptoms of lung cancer are varied and lack of specificity. The syndrome of lung cancer pertains to deficiency in root and excess in branch, in which deficiency in root refers to deficiency of qi and yin, and excess in branch involves stasis, phlegm and toxins. This disease locates in the lung, mainly involving the spleen, liver, and kidney. The commonly-used drugs of Professor Zhang in treating lung cancer include drugs for benefiting qi and nourishing yin, replenishing blood to strengthen vital qi, resolving food stagnation to help digestion, promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, invigorating spleen and eliminating dampness, resolving phlegm and promoting diuresis, emoving toxicity to dissipate masses, and clearing heat and detoxifying. TNM stage, metastatic sites and prior treatment are usually considered in treatment based on syndrome differentiation by Professor Zhang.
