Objective:To summarize and compare Professor Zhou Zhongying’s academic idea in diagnosing and treating esophageal cancer and gastric cancer. Methods:This study is based on Professor Zhou’s esophageal and gastric cancer cases in later10years.156esophageal cancer cases and250gastric cancer cases were picked up and established a database. Data mining technology like frequencies, factor analysis were used to find out the rules of syndrome, pathogenesis, symptom and medication. The analysis results were based on Professor Zhou’s new syndromic etiology theory, and discussed and summarized combined with Professor Zhou’s clinical experience.Results:18syndromic etiologies were picked out in all156esophageal cancer cases. It includes12pathological factors and6location factors. Excessive etiologies mainly include blood stasis, phlegm, depression, heat; deficiency etiologies include insufficiency of yin and qi depletion. Location factors involve gastric, spleen, liver, lung.17syndromic etiologies were picked out in250gastric cancer cases. It includes10pathological factors and7location factors. Excessive etiologies mainly include stasis, dampness, heat, phlegm and cancerous toxin; deficiency etiologies are same as the esophageal cancer. The location factors involve gastric, spleen and liver.66drugs were used more than10times in esophageal cancer. The drugs focus on replenishing qi and nourishing yin, and anti-cancer.87drugs were used more than10times in gastric cancer. The drugs mainly focus on replenishing qi and invigotating spleen, resisting cancer and removing toxin, and clearing heat and dampness. Conclusions:Qi deficiency and retention of cancerous toxin is the basis of morbidity. This two disease’s both pathogenesis involve disfunction of spleen in transportation and sputum-qi, stagnation, but in gastric cancer the disfunction of spleen is more serious than in esophageal cancer. Sputum-qi stagnation see more in esophageal cancer cases, but in gastric cancer cases we can see more dampness-heat stagnation situations. The combination of dredging and tonifying is the basic treatment method. We should also pay attention to resisting cancer and removing toxin, and combine with the different methods of eliminating pathogen and strengthening vital qi based on different stages of the disease in clinical treatment. The treatment methods include resolving phlegm and blood stasis, benefiting qi and nourishing yin, regulating stomach ascending qi, etc.
